Point of pride by this native San Diegan, the Uss Midway is THE LARGEST of all the carrier museums, I know size doesn't matter. Never thought she would get here. Too many yahoos throwing protests here and there, like it was too big for the area, or that it would wreck the skyline. Oh please, we're a damn Navy town. We should be ashamed of ourselves if we had'nt gotten her. Just very pleased and relieved!

Congratulations to San Diego for getting the Midway. I have some fond memories of your fair city having spent some time in the USN and pulling more than one liberty there.
A few years back the city of Tampa, FL made a half hearted attempt to obtain the USS Forrestal and setting up a USN museum in the port. Unfortunately, the nay sayers won out and all the efforts came for naught. Again, Bravo Zulu (well done) to San Diego.

It a nice sight to see MIDWAY moored at North Island when I drive on the base. Weather delayed her arrival from the Bay Area. They're loading aircraft here before they move her over to Navy Pier in Downtown San Diego. My Dad is an old MIDWAY Sailor and I remember getting to roam around the ship with him and my brother when we were "knee high". Should be open to the public this Spring.
