Honestly Noel, I'll go for the Badger 175 any day. It may not be the best in the market but is "value for your money" (and the parts are sooo available)...
I have used a lot of types since I got "hooked" on airbrushing (my first try was your Tamiya HF which was a very "expensive" mistake... ouch)
I think the 175 Crescendo costs about 6K at Han's Infinite Tools at the Shangri-La Mall 6th level near True Value. They've got a lot of Badger parts there. I also asked a lot of the "professional" airbrushers (the ones who do cars, jeeps, t-shirts and posters) and their consensus is either one of two brands: Badger (175 specifically) and IWATA (because of the parts availability daw).

Jepot,
I've tried to use Wipe and Shine. The effect is the same. It takes a little longer to dry, though. I did it a few months ago so I can't really tell you how long it'll last. I know Future has a shine that lasts a long time but we'll see with W&S.
I tried to ask my friend for an analysis of the composition but he hasn't gotten back to me on that. He said (he's a licensed and practicing Chemical Engineer so I can trust his judgement) that the composition based on his initial analysis is about the same (consistency, base, etc.) I guess only time can tell, huh?
If you're interested in talking to my friend, he'll be at the club meetings (he always is) so you can probably ask him.

Maintenance and cleaning is very easy and quick (since I use only Acrylics), te only thing I dislike about it is it is tricky to adjust the amount of paint since its a single action (or a hybrid) type.
The compressor can get deafening but its primarily due to how I arrange my gear (the thing is less than 2 feet away from my right ear).
Spent a little over P5,000 Php for it as well as a power supply; bought it at Lil's.
You may want to consider that as a starter; then eventually move on and upgrade to their HG-types, (prices are similar to airbrushes you saw in National...Badger, whatever). At least it's compatible with the compressor.
Actually, it was kind'a expensive doing that a few years ago. I discovered that buying a good airbrush online or thru a friend or relative abroad could be cheaper. Take for example the Badgers and the Aztek airbrusheds. You can get them at Ebay for almost half the price here in the Philippines. The Anthem Badger Airbrush ( a really good one) sells between 50 to 90 depending on the bidding results. But still lower than the usual 6-8 thousand pesos here. There is a compressor sold at Hans or Do-it-yourself shops at less than a 1,000. These compressor are noisy - I AGREE. But with a tank attached to it, the flow of air is more regulated that a direct compressor (one without a built-in tank).
My ten cents...

IPMS Philippines have been in existence since 1968. Jay Tison, Bert Anido, Tiggy Barcelona and some others were responsible (collectively) for forming the club. It was in 1989 that IPMS Philippines became a registered and independent organization in the Philippines. When Bert Anido past away, many of the members agreed to change the name to IPMS Philippines Bert Anido Chapter. However, Jay Tison, Tiggy Barcelona and some other former members separated from the group retaining the name IPMS Philippines (Inc.). As a result, IPMS Philippines spearheaded by Jay Tison, Tiggy Barcelona, Roger Uy and other individuals have welcomed the formation of several chapters in the Philippines which includes IPMS Manila, IPMS The Fort, IPMS Alabang and so on. If you wish to get further clarification on this, you may contact Jay Tison ,IPMS Philippines at jayt427sc@yahoo.com.

Well, I go out late at night to serve and please foreigners 'till dawn's early light...it helps support my modelling addiction.
Yup, the milky-white Wipe And Shine dries clear. Try dipping a piece of clear sprue...allow a few hours for it to dry a bit.
About that Tamiya Olive Drab - is that XF-62? It seems that your model has a stronger green tone than the color produced by that same paint...care to explain more, please? Thanks!

Okay, i just got my self a bottle of the milky-white wipe and shine... You say it dries clear, huh? I'm going to try them out on a junked model... but only when i get my airbrush, which might be quite a while.
Yeah... I'm more of a night person, so i'm usually up until 3am. So are you, i notice.
As for my B-17, the Academy 1/72 Memphis Belle B-17F that you have. The colors i used were Tamiya Olive Drab and Light Grey. I applied all of it by brush, so the "seams" aren't that straight.
I found a 1/72 Academy B-17G at harrison plaza and i can't wait to get to it!

Thanks for the help, gents!

Ammonia can be used to remove Future (available in the form of window/glass cleaners available at grocery stores). Maybe you can try it with that product too. =)

Yeah, got Wipe And Shine...bought a bottle in SM Bicutan; goes for around P50+.
Dipping the canopy into the solution had exemplary results; now I just want to know how to strip the wax off - just for experimentation purposes.
As I intend to use this as a protective coat prior and after decaling (can't want to use this on model cars, too), I would think that the best way to apply it is via airbrush. Now I'm curious on what to use to clean the airbrush after spraying.
Wipe And Shine comes in two colors:
- "Natural" - clear (though looks milky white when you peer into the opened bottle;
- "Red" - Translucent.
Hmmm...you don't sleep, do you? BTW, regarding that B-17 of yours: What paints (and colors) did you use for the upper and lower surfaces? I have Academy's B-17F 'Memphis Belle' as well as a P-47 and I intend to use that paint scheme.

You got the wipe and shine?!? is it clear like future or slightly reddish, like most floorwax here? What do you mean by "remove it"? it didn't work and you want to strip it off?

Sorry for the late reply - had a long weekend.
Unfortuantely I don't have a cam, so I can't post a pic of my M1s.
I'm not just focusing on armor, I also biuld jets and helos as well. Incidentally, my next project is Academy's A-10 and I intend to paint this in Lizard camo using the SprayWork - based on my experice, I beleive it can be handled.

I think the Tamiya factory is in Cebu and Academy's Factory is in Cavite.

Congratulations to your newly formed IPMS Philippines. I was an inactive member of the IPMS USA and I submitted entries for the National Convention in Chicago about 2 years ago. I have been an active member of the Military Miniature Society of Illinois for 12 years. I also invite you to take a look at our web page at http://members.aol.com/MMSI2K/newmmsipages/mmsimain.htm You can see my winning entry in the year 2001 under the ordinance division. Most of our work are on figures rather than aircrafts, ships and tank. More power to all of you.

Markus,
Future can be OCCASIONALLY found at Cash and Carry and at Pure Gold in Clark, but I was there a few weeks ago and out of stock sa Clark. There has been an IPMS Philippines since the late 60's too; try checking out the website:
http://ipms-phils.50megs.com
There is a group meeting held every 2nd sunday of the month (this coming sunday) at UP Diliman Fine Arts building. Go check out the website for more details. The Tamiya factory is in Cebu ( lots of reason why it was set up there, but a pressing reason was the geology, yes, the geology-to support the weight of the molds and presses). Academy used to have a factory in EPZA Cavite but alam ko it downgraded a few tears ago.
Good luck on your search for future!

I have five bottles of Future. However, we use it for group build ups during our club meetings. Just come over and you can join us. We meet only once a month in Quezon City.

No one sells Tamiya enamel in the 'states? That's odd, you'd think that would be the first place to sell them... then again, Tamiya IS based in Japan, so it may be one of those odd cases where the Philippines sees more merchendise than the US....
|
|
Yep. At Lil's. Again, I'm not sure if they still do because I just saw ONE bottle in their glass case over 2 years ago.
Yeah, it's very odd. They only have the Tamiya Acrylics here (and the lacquer spraycans). Well if they do sell the Enamel paints, I haven't heard of anyone that uses them or of any shop that sell them.
Just a trivia. Do you know that there is a Tamiya factory somewhere in Laguna? Next time you buy a Tamiya kit, check where it is made. =)

Not all the Tamiya airbrushes can connect to the sprayworks set, check the description for the brushes on Hobby Link Japan.
Tamiya Airbrushes are bassically repackaged Olympus(Iwata) Airbrushes, except for the plastic one.
Tamiya Enamles, IMHO, aren't worth the money. Bottles are small and a pain to handle too. I only get the few colours that are not available in their acrylic range.
I think the reason for no enamels being available in the states is due imports limitations and extra paperwork needed as they are classed flammable & hazardous, atleast if I remember a talk correctly I had with people over here.
