Here are some pics of my PAF T-28A Trojan. Its the 72nd Heller kit, rescribed and with rivet marks added. The cowling is a dental resin conversion part provided by a friend (dont know where he got it). The cockpit was dressed up with Eduard PE set. The canopy is a low-profile vac-form replacement set opened up for better effect. The two-bladed prop came from the spares box.

The model represents early-delivery PAF T-28s, with silver upper sides and gray undersides. Tell me what you think, guys. Smile [:)]

Hey, allan! I take it this isn't the one that you tore apart and put back together again (i don't remember that one having dropped flaps). Good job on all those rivets! Nope, this is a different kit. Its a new build (well, when it was first completed). The re-build you saw earlier was the D model T-28. It has dropped flaps too, but had a different cowling, a 3-bladed prop and an overall gray scheme. Hmm... that gave me an idea: a T-28 family portrait! Well, the both of them, anyway. Big Smile [:D]

I was wondrin what happened to your own sig. For a while it showed nothing but the dreaded x. Good thing its back on now.

yeah, i thought it was just my computer showing that annoying little "x"... as it turns out, villagephotos.com has suspended all of their free services... Angry [:(!] So i switched to Ripway (loads more space for pics, etc...)

I'm wanting to give the B-17 a little rest once i finish the F-86 (be a bit more nationalistic too!)... That is, if it turns out alright! I can almost see it comming together. Approve [^]

A family pic would be nice, even if it was just the two of them! Speaking of T-28s, i came across the PAF Museum site today, and read that the last trojan was retired around 1997 or something. Sad that our beloved "Tora-toras" aren't in service anymore. As an aside, the museum has the memorabilia of a WWII Japanese soldier that surrendered 33 years after the war's end! Talk about dedication to country! Have you ever been to that museum (i'm pretty sure you have seeing as the Bert Anido chapter supplied them with scale models of the real thing)?

Yup. Been there. The people there are kinda nice, especially when you tell them that you built some of the kits. Hehehe! It was a project on a rather tight sked. But well worth it. We also supplied some kits and items for the AFP Museum in Aguinaldo. The F-8 you see in my sig was displayed there for quite some time.

Check out the outdoor aircraft display. Not very well kept but at least you get to see them face-to-pitot tube.

We did see the passing of an era when the Tora-Toras were retired. But they do still tow it to the flight line in Sangley for airshows every now and then. Weve been holding exhibits there yearly. Last time out the S Bomb Girls were the top crowd drawer. LOL.

Nice build, Allan!

I'm in the process of correcting the flaws of the 1/48 Monogram T-28A reissue, which includes replacing the kit supplied low-profile canopy with a *high* one (vacuformed), adding the interior roll bar, new Dorsal Fin, and scratch building an "A" Model (smaller) cowling, with the smaller *2-stack* exhaust.

The kit supplied cowling has the correct small engine opening in the front and Oil Cooler Intake, but it isn't tappered back to the firewall like the "A" Model is suppose to be. (the profile looks like a "B" Model cowling)

I've got one of those Heller 1/72 "Fennec" kits, which I'm going to replace the tall canopy and make it into the US Army T-28B #7747 "Ellie II", which was used by the US Army Airborne Board at Ft. Bragg during the late 70's/early 80's.

TREMENDOUS job on that T-28!! The last time I built a T-28, I was about 13 years old, and built the Monogram offering. No putty, no paint, just glue & decals. Took me about three hours. It looks as though you spent a little more time on yours....Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Thanks! Per our research PAF T-28As (and Ds) contained a hodge-podge of parts coming from different variants. I suspect this was the result of field modifications/rework. Apparently, some were equipped with the low-profile canopy as I depicted in this model. I opted for the latter as it kinda looked better. Hope to see your T-28s soon! Smile [:)]

Thank you! Im currently working on 2 SIAI Marchetti SF-260s. Im converting a 48th and a 72nd SF-260 resin kits into turbo variants, with extended nose and three-bladed props. I'll post them here if as soon as I get them done. Wink [;)]

Great build of a very attractive plane ! I've always liked the different canopy & nosegear on a radial-engined bird. The PAF markings add to the "uniqueness." Well done.

The kit on E-Bay is the "D" Model, and it's number is: 0121M0100

Monogram made two other T-28 kits, the "A" Model: 85-0028, and the "B" Model (don't have the kit # for that one)

Each are basically the same kit.... The "D" Model has underwing stores and weapons, the "A" Model has the two bladed prop, and the "B" Model...well, it's just a B model. Wink [;)]

Update: Just done some searching on E-Bay, and found examples of each of these kits:

I just pulled one from my stash and the kit number for the 1/48 Monogram kit is PA28. I hope that helps

I know, finding an *off the assembly line* type Trojan was about as rare as finding an combat worn M-1 Garand with matching serial numbers! [:0]

Most of the "A" Models had the low profile type canopy, without the roll bar, even before the "B" Models were introduced, because there was an increase of 10kts TAS with the low canopy installation, plus it afforded the IP a much better view. 10 extra knots and a better view in a Training aircraft, is quite a valuable advantage, especially when it involved something as minor as a canopy change.

Here's a picture of "Ellie II" at Ft. Bragg, while photographing some parachute test.


After the aircraft were retired in 1986, #747 was donated to the Army Aviation Museum at Rucker...... when I was down there last year, I ask the curator where it was, and he took me out to the old T-Hangars beside the museum, where I saw "Ellie II" sitting with flat tires and about 3" of dust covering her once brilliant finish. Sad [:(]

So sad.

This 'Forum' thingy works and I really appreciate the help in returning to the hooby after 20 yrs. You guys and gals are a squadron that covers each others SIX! Combat circle!

Now if I can find a "Courier" kit in 1/48th my 'Lima site' collection will be complete.

Any suggestions?

Hmmmm.... I'm afraid you're coming up against a brick wall if you're looking for a 1/48 Helio Courier/U-10A... unless there's someone else in here that's aware of one? I found a 1/72 Turbo Porter, but that's as close as I got, sorry.

Model manufacturers aren't too keen on making anything that resembles a "Civilian" aircraft, but it sure would be nice if they did make one... I'd buy it!
