Hasegawa makes a very nice Oscar. They offer early (2 blade prop) and later varients.

Fine Molds produced a kit some years ago. It is more expensive, less detailed, and the instructions are written in Japanese, with color call outs for Gunze Mr. Color enamel, not available in the U.S.

Earlier kits were made by Arii/Otaki, and show their age. They are less expensive, however.

Hope this helps.

In 1/72 scale, Fujimi makes a very nice Oscar. Superior to the Hasegawa 1/72 kit in my opinion. In 1/48 scale, the current Hasegawa kits are the best, although if you can find one of the older Nichimo kits it also builds up into an excellent model. The Arii/Otaki kit is less expensive but not in the same class as the Hasegawa or Nichimo offerings. The Fine-Molds kit wasn't worth the very high price and is probably OOP, like most Fine--Mold kits.

I can vouch for the 'ole Nichimo Oscar; 'tis a decent kit needing only a small amount of work. The worst part of building that thing was having to sand down the wings and fuselage which had a slight texture to them. (A result of the molding process used, but I ain't gonna get technical here! Tongue [:P] )

Anyhoo, I've posted this before. Matter of fact, this is the very first image I posted here on FSM and it's kinda small. I'll try and replace it with a larger image. (DONE!) This was built... I dunno, maybe 11 years ago.

If I were to build another Oscar I'd use one of the Hasegawa kits. The Fine Molds ain't bad, they're great kits. But they do pale alongside Mr.H's offering. However, if I still had an FM kit (and no Mr.H) and had the urge to build an Oscar tomorrow, I'd be perfectly happy with it.

Arii/Otaki? Yech! Just my personal opinion. Used to love their stuff, when it was cutting edge. And it ain't that bad really, but there's too much bad stuff going on in each and every one of those kits to prevent me from turning one into a serious build. (Plus the fact that I'm lazy!) I've owned every one of them several times and the only reason I keep grabbing 'em is for trade bait for Dan the Man. Wink [;)]

Oh, and they're good testbeds too...

Hasegawa also makes a FINE 1/32nd version of the Oscar (kit# ST3: 08053).

Here's a pic of the Fine Molds. Its an old build, also. Probably did this one about seven years ago.

Great job on the Oscar, Pixilater.

The Air Museum in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, has an Oscar sitting right next to Ira Bong's P-38 Lightning. Very interesting plane.
