Q's about Trumpeter's F-4F
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 12, 2004 4:20 PM
I just got the Trumpeter kit of the F-4F in 1/32 scale and was initially impressed. The engine of the kit is a double row radial. I have built several kits of this aircraft and climbed all over a real one and never saw one with a double radial. Is this correct or do I have some aftermarket or scratchbuilding in store? If I do, does anybody make the proper engine in 1/32 scale. I really want this one to be perfect.Big Smile [:D]Approve [^]

Thank you indeed, DJ!. I'm starting my Trumpeter F4 as well and this helps a lot.. Paul, two reviews I read of the kit said it was not pratical to keep the folding wings of the kit operational. The folding assembly is not strong enough. You may have to decide wether to keep them extended of retracted. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Glad you found it useful! I'd like to join you in building this kit, but I have a few other kits to build first..

Paul,

According to the Scale & Detail # 65 on the Grumman F4F and General Motors FM-1 & FM-2 the FM-2 had the Wright R-1820 which was a single row 9 cylinder engine. The rest were equiped with the Pratt & Whitney R-1830 which was a double row of 7 cylinders each for a total of 14. So the kit is correct for the F4F-4.
