F-117 anyone?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 15, 2004 4:22 PM
Hey everyone, I've got a question that my pop needs answered. I told him I'd post it here for him. He picked up a 1/72 AMT ertl F-117 on sale at a department store that was getting rid of it's models. He was telling me today the thing isn't very good. For starters it doesn't look to be 1/72 it looks more like 1/48. At any rate he wasn't very happy with it but like he said... it was only a couple of bucks. Is there a good 1/72 kit out there that he'd be happy with. I'm sure Tamiya probably makes one, but is it in 1/72? Any advice I can pass on would be helpful.Big Smile [:D]
Thanks in advance for any help...Thumbs Up [tup]

Oddly enough Revell Germany does a rather good one. I think its one of the first that has the bomb bay doors open up the correct way.

Mind you, it does have (or at least mine did) yellow tinted canopy windows. I don't know how the cockpit details are because at the time I wasn't focussing on it.

Italeri's is also fairly decent, as long as you leave the bomb bay doors closed.

I've heard the Testors F-117 is pretty good, it can also be found in Italeri boxing.

I'm not surprized the AMT one was a dissapointment, largely their aircraft kits were pretty questionable.

I have an Italeri 1/48 one still in the box but like a kid I opened it up and it looks good. I would say their 1/72 would be pretty decent too.

I have seen an Academy F-117 kit before, but I can't remember if it was 1/72 or 1/48. I think DML used to make one... and Hasegawa makes one too. I haven't built any of them, but they are usually pretty good manufactures so I would imagine they are.
