By the way, if anyone has good reference on Vietnam era U.S. missiles and bombs, please share.

Thanks,

Making markings on missiles...

Swanny turned me onto this solution for adding markings to missiles: Pactra tape! The stuff comes in a roll with six different widths. Swanny's suggestion was for adding yellow stripes to bombs, but I figured it should work just as well for the black and yellow stripes on missiles.

The attached photo shows a Sparrow and a Sidewinder in 1/72 scale that are from the Monogram F-4J kit I'm building. I just laid these on the scanner and captured this image.

I used the thinnest width tape on the Sidewinders, and the 2nd thinnest on the Sparrows. I need to check my references, but I think I need one more, thinner, black band on the Sparrows, behind the front fins.

The tape looks thick on the Sidewinder, but that's because the missile has raised rings molded where I put the tape. You can see another raised ring at the tail of the missile.
