Difference between F-14A/B Bombcat and F-14D cockpits
Posted by weebles on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 7:50 AM
Hello all, I've been trying to find the Black Box F-14D cockpit update set in 1/48 and just can't locate it anywhere. I'm looking at photos of the two sets and trying to find out just what the heck is the difference between the two. Does anyone know if there is any significant difference? I'm assuming there is some difference for the RIO but not sure what it is. Also can somebody recommend a good reference for the F-14D?
Thanks!

There are some great photos here:

.
Specific shots of the cockpit are here:

.
Basically, the F-14D has a couple of multi-function displays in both the front and back seats. The Rio has much better displays in the F-14D.

The site above is the reference site on the F-14!

Squadrons F-14 walk around has a bunch of F-14D pictures. I found it helpful in correcting some of the problems with my 1/72 Fujimi F-14D kit. The MFD's and the ejection seats are the biggest differences between the 'A' and 'D' models. The "bat ears" on the RIO's NACES ejection seats are also slightly lower than the pilot's.

Thanks guys. There clearly is a difference in cockpits. I don't think I'm going to find the F-14D set so it looks like she'll be an F-14A/B
Thanks!

Lufbery... Just took a peak at that web site you mention. It's super! Will come in handy whenever I go and build the Revell 1/32 F-14.

Scott,

The guy who does that site offers a walk-around CD. I'm thinking of picking it up.
