AMTech providing the XPs
Posted by Quagmyre on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 9:43 AM
AMTech seems to be coming out with five XP planes at 1/48 this year. I think this is great. A number of us out here are looking for relatively unique planes to build aside from the run-of-the-mill Mustangs, 262s, Zeroes, Corsairs, etc.

#1 and #2 were failed variations of the Curtis P-36, #3 and #5 were variations of their obvious predecessors. And #4 was slated to be a V-1 interceptor and looked like a very fast hybrid of the P-47 and P-51.

AA 489213 (N)XP-42 (Ltd) 1/48
AA 489214 (N)YP-37 (Ltd) 1/48
AA X48001 XP-40 Q-2 Ultimate Warhawk 1/48
AA X48002 XP-72 Ultrabolt 1/48
AA X48003 XP-47H "Hemibolt" 1/48

Could AMTech be going after niche in the market? Is this a trend we will be seeing from AMTech? If so I got a list of X planes I'd like to see (@ 1/48 scale of course)! Tongue [:P]

I would be happy to just see Amtech bring out the things they announced last year. Mainly the P-61's.

Hadn't heard about the XP-42 before, that'd be great. With all the other Curtiss stuff they've announced I can start rounding out the Curtiss Corner in 48th. I'm esecially excited about the P-37 and the Tomahawks they've announced. Less-so about the P-40Q, but it's a P-40 so I gotta have it.

I too would like to see some of the older announcements materialize on the shelves, like the Hemibolt and the Black Widow. Although with the P-61 they had to start over again in the middle of A&T because they discovered a far more accurate, complete and accessible source of reference, so that's understandable.

One thing I like about AMtech is the fact that they come out and say what's going on with their stuff. They were having problems with the P-61's and the P-40Q (and a couple others) and they said so. They don't leave you hangin' wondering "wassuupp?".

Another kit, actually a family, that I'm kinda eager to see from them is the F2H Banshee. The test-shot builds looked pretty groovy and I hope they really are nice kits. It'll be nice to see more original stuff from these folks instead of rehashes, I'm getting sick of that god-awful AMT P-40 kit...

(and that's coming from Mr.P-40! Tongue [:P])
