P-51B in 1/24 scale ?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 9:42 AM
It looks like Cam Decals has put quite a bit of effort into producing decal sets for P-51B Mustangs. Does this mean that someone is going to be producing a kit or conversion some time soon?

Combat Models, which is now now owned by Roberts Models, has a 1/24th P-51B. (read: VAC which = YUCK! Wink [;)])

I joke about vacs, 'cuz they're all ugly no matter how 'nice' they look, but here's a guy who's adventurous enough to tackle them; in this case he's doing a 24th P-51B: 1/24th Combat P-51B by Gil Hodges

As to a decal company releasing a sheet for a kit that doesn't exist... Microscale used to do that from time to time. Lately most decal manufacturers do make markings for specific kits; that is, they're actually fitted to a particular kit even though they'll most likely be okay for other kits.

If someone was to make an injection-molded 24th Baker Stang, I'd agree with unnamed and put my money on Trumpeter.

Any opinions on the new 1/24th Mustangs? I'm espeically interested in the kit that claims to be so heavy on interior detail. I'm putting together a Tuskegee commemoration for a buddy of mine who is willing to spend a couple hundred bucks on the kit and aftermarket upgrades. I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me before I start spending someone else's money!

Perhaps I'll see if I can come up with an e-mail addy for someone at Trumpeter that can shed a little light on the subject. I'm sure I wouldn't be the first person looking for such info.

Worst case scenario - I have found detailed information, photos and drawings that Rodney Williams published on another site that outlines conversion of an Airfix 1/24th P-51D to a B model. I could probably apply the modifications to a Trumpeter model fairly cleanly.

Thanks for the help guys!
