Thanks again! John, I really enjoyed your website! There are lot's of cool things to check out there. I took all my models out of the display, cleaned all the shelves, dusted all the 'planes (only had to replace three small parts and one antenna wire knocked off in the process-arrgghhh) and somehow managed to get all 40 aircraft and my two tank models fitting snugly). I'm having a new display cabinet built and that is going to be sweet, giving me lot's of extra space and hopefully plenty motivation to get more kits done! It might be hard for some to believe, but my first Tamiya kit is up next-the venerable old Wildcat. I spent a lil' time prepping the parts yesterday and hope to get started on it today! I have two almost full CO2 tanks and a clean worktable, so here we go!

btw-the Sea Fury looks great in it's place in the "Korean War gallery". She's parked right next to my MiG-15. Smile

Thanks for the kind comments gents! I did try to be subtle with the weathering, mostly limiting it to paint fade on the upper surfaces. I used a lighter shade of the sea gray and some pastel chalks for that. She looks good posed next to my Hawker Typhoon, also wearing invasion stripes. I've never had the modeling skills to turn out incredible models, and with increasing age the hands and eyes aren't the same. I decided a while back that I'd rather have a few display cabinets full of nice builds than spend the time required to "go further". I only build in 1/48 scale and it's nice to have the comparative views of 'planes in the same scale. Thanks again for your encouraging words!

Despite your problems I think she looks great. I too like the weathering on the upper wings and the invasion stripes look really good (something I tend to mess up on).

Very nicely completed! Yes the additions in the wheel wells really are a boost along the 'less is more' line of thought. The upper wing weathering/paint fading catches a good balance of wear but still cared for.

I started work on this airplane about 5-6 years ago. I stopped working on scale models for several reasons but this Sea Fury and the Mirage F-1 that I did as a CSAF plane were about half-finished and they taunted me to complete them for years. Well, this year I made a New Year's resolution to resume building and I finished the Sea Fury this past Sunday morning. It's pretty much an OOB build, although I did detail the cockpit a little, and I added some doo-dads to detail the landing gear and bays. I used a vac-canopy from Squadron, the dark gray is Humbrol, the Sky type -S is ModelMaster enamel. The stripes were done in MM acrylic flat-white and a custom-mixed dark gray with Humbrol. Cannons are hypo tubing inside brass tube. Decals are the AeroMaster "Sea Fury Pt. 1" 48-702 set. I had a lot of trouble with the canopy; I had a hard time fitting it, and after it was finally attached I saw a lot of "crap" inside the canopy and a nice big glue smear-inside too of course. Oh well, I was really tired of fighting this one and let it go as it was. All in all, it turned out as another pretty fair "four footer". At least I hope it looks good from 4 feet away. So, that said, here's Lt. Peter Carmichael's "MiG Killer" Sea Fury, at an unlikely stop in central Texas.
