F9F Decal Question

Well, the answer to your question is Eaglestrike. They have a sheet out (number 48-114 I believe) that has one yellow trimmed Yorktown Panther on it. I'll try to find a web address for you in a sec. BTW- the Yorktown didn't serve in the Korean War. She was modernized and went back into service around 1954 after the war was over. The Panther on the Eaglestrike sheet served aboard the Yorktown during this time frame. Hope this helps a little.

If you're thinking of VF-192 Panthers then the carrier would be the Oriskany ( I'm pretty sure, I will look it up) I managed to get a sheet of old Microscale decals of them from time they (We?) filmed "The Bridges At Toko-Ri". - Calvin

BTW, the Korean war was in the cold stages by the time Yorktown was refitted and returned to the fleet in 1953.

Yep, VF-192 the World Famous Golden Dragons were aboard the Oriskany during the filming of "The Bridges At Toko-ri". It was filmed in 1955 while the carrier was on a cruise in the Sea of Japan. If you've never seen the movie it's pretty good. Another one that featured the Panther as the star aircraft was "Men of the Fighting Lady" that had Dewy Martin, Van Johnson, and Walter Pidgeon in it. The events in that movie were bases on events that really happened. As for VF-192 decals, you'd be almost better off using the ones supplied in the most current release of the Monogram kit. As an interesting note Ed (the guy who runs the tool room here at school) flew A-4's with the Golden Dragons. He also got to fly the Panther, Cougar, and Tiger! Some people get to have all the fun!
