I've got two Monogram F-100D kits, one of which I'd like to convert to a 'C'. Know what I have to do, to do it?

The fin has a different shape to the fairing half way up that extends past the trailing edge, and the wing is quite different in that there are no flaps and the trailing edge is straight.  There are conversion sets to make the change, one is from Fox 3, the other was done by Cutting Edge.

The short fin was only on the F-100A and most or all of those were modified to the taller fin.

different cockpit and ejection seat too. And no wing fences. I gotta say I love the Hun and you did a sweet job on it Stu. I built this same kit a year or so ago in camo colors and also used an Aires pit. I loved the kit except for the intake shape and I agree about the pitiful kit cockpit. I do remember having to scratch build to open the canopy and replaced the kit wheels for resin ones. I love the metal work you did and the decals conformed beautifully! Great work all around!

The RBF streamers are a nice touch. A forgoten detail. We couldnt perform any maintenance on a F-15, 16 A-10 or T-38A unless is was "Safe for maintenance". To be safe required the cockpit to be safe thus seat and canopy pins and a canopy safety strut where required were installed.

Hey John, Wow, just looked it up also. A large wish list on that one, particularly speeds of Mach 3 and Mach 5 w/ramjet. Probably a bit too optimistic for the day!

Max, A quick search confirmed my memory.  The F-103 was a Republic concept for a Mach 3 capable, mostly titanium missile armed intercepter that was mocked up at the factory but never went anywhere else.  Looks like something out a sci-fi movie even today.

Love those F-100s! Really nice job on that one! Sat in one, was in a position next to the ground FO, where you could feel the heat big time from a Napalm drop in a firepower demo, saw them as Thunderbirds, why wouldn't they be one of my favorites?

My, your example looks much better than my Revell I built not too long ago. Good work!

Max

PS--This old post also brings back memories of the Century Series of Fighters starting with the F-100 in the 1950s. As a kid I remember the model line-up sitting on a chest in my room, F-100 through F-106 flight line. Wow, that was a long time ago! What ever happened to 103?

Best looking F-100 I've seen in years brother! My father saw your pics and told one of these babies saved his team's ass in the Delta 1968. He was with 5th special forces at the time. I carried on the family tradition and made it through the hell and was excepted for 1st SFOD-D after 4 years with 7th special forces. Lol guess I'm just a moron. LMAO beautiful model.

Hmmm.  I'd start by doing a bit of homework on it.  I believe the vert stab is shorter on the C.  There are also some differences in the cockpit.   Look  at Squadron's F-100 Detail and Scale.  I believe it had some very detailed information as to the differences in the variants.  But to backdate a D to a C I think there will be some carving and trimming involved.

RBFs too big?  Good to know.  They came out of the spares box.  They were originally part of the Eduard F-4 Phantom ejection seat set.   Appreciate the feedback though.

Very nice looking build. I love the paint job. If I were to nitpick one thing it would be the size of the RBF tags. Other than that a fantastic job all around. Thanks for sharing.

My Trump kit is actually in the decal stage.  I painted it in the rare ADC Grey because I wanted to represent the New Mexico ANG.  I was all set to paint it NMF, because the ANG decals are extremely hard to find.  A gentleman, who will remain nameless, said he has a start up decal businss and he was going to produce the NM ANG by mid-August.  So, I went the ADC Grey route in anticipation of the forthcoming decal set.  Well, turns out he changed is mind and is waiting to see how some of his other offerings sell, befor going to print.  So, I am hosed.  But all is not lost, I will make a less-sexier ADC Grey set of markings....

But you did a beautiful job on the pit.....

Appreciate it!  I would definitely build another one.  I have a Revell kit in the stash, definitely a kit worth having someone pay you to buildToast

Wow!! SurpriseWow..now we're talking.  I thought I was the only one that built one of these.  I have been on an F-100 kick.  I did a nice job on one of the Revell kits and my Trump is almost done.  A buddy of mine liked the Revell kit so much he wants to pay me to build one for him.  But enough about me.  Your kit is a real beauty.  First class.  You should be very proud.  Well done!!!

Hey all.  I wanted to post some pics of a recent build

This is the Trumpeter 1/48 F-100C.  Pretty pleased with the kit.  I used an Aires cockpit set and the decals are from Superscale.  Very impressed with the Aires pit.  The kit cockpit and seat were rudimentary at best.  The Aires fit nicely with minimal fuss.  RBF tags are care of Eduard from the spares box.  Oxygen hose is solder.  Painting was done with a whole host of Alclad II and Testor's metalizers :
