I do very little weathering on the planes I build, that's just the way I prefer them. I have, in the past, used Prismacolor metallic pencils. The effect is very subtle, and can be erased if I don't like it. Heck, I don't even do exhaust or gunsmoke stains.
The planes at Pearl may have exhibited fading on the top surfaces, rendering the lateral surfaces darker by comparison. Most OD painted planes of which I've seen pics have lighter fabric covered control surfaces.
Hope this has been of some help.

hi pixSmile [:)]
thanks very much for the advice; i already have the "US OD" and the "ANA613 US OD", so i guess i'll maybe have a go at using them both on my p-40 for the pearl group build.
incidentally, i might try swanny's "salting" technique for paint chips on this kit...have you ever done anything like that? if you're not sure what i mean you can see it explained on his website...

nick

The ANA 613 is the OD shade most often seen on WW II aircraft. The differences may be slight. If I were building the kit, and planning on building armor also, I would get all three. That way, you can vary the panel & control surface shades without having to mix & match. Paints are relatively inexpensive, and the "extra" shades may come in handy at some point in time. Just a suggestion. Good luck, nick !

US Olive Drab: Which One?
Posted by nmayhew on Saturday, January 31, 2004 2:33 AM
hi guys,Smile [:)]
i'm looking at the polly scale acrylic range of paints and see different types of US OD:
"US Olive Drab" (polly scale PS5098)
"ANA 613 US Olive Drab" (polly scale PS5080)
and also
"FS34087 Olive Drab" (polly scale PS5370)

does anyone know wgich one was used for their aircraft, and which one on armour? sorry fo abit of cross-forum posting, but i'm doing a p-40 for the pearl harbor build, and want to have the right colour when i do some US armour down the line.

i know this is a bit "rivet counter-ish" but would appreciate the help all the same!Tongue [:P]

nick
