Fairey Gannet AS4 revell 1/72 with engines (New pictures)
Posted by bsyamato on Saturday, November 5, 2011 11:32 AM

Heres my latest take-off from the workbench and also one of longest (started on april 2011) and heavy modified kit i never done. Performed for the Anti Submarine Warfare 2 group build

The original kit was already one of most detailed kit i never seen on my hands, all flying surfaces separated, good detailed cockpit , good fit and perfect decals , but i liked so much the fat shapes of the subject to perform some extra work, as Sir Kermit says, i doubled the number of pieces Surprise Used lots of differents materials for details and no aftermarket kits ( 2 cents cheaper way is better 2 cents )

As ever painted with handbrushed enamels, humbrol and model master, weathering with drybrush and panel washing.

Engines section are unglued to allowed  move out from the plane.

Work in progress is step to step along the (A)SW2 GB.

Wheater are actually bad in Italy (on the north also peoples died for floods Sad ) then i take some indoor picture of the gannet ,after i try to put more with sun, but heres final pictures for now:

with engines retracted

some detail

full extracted engines

Some selection from the wip, here the complete progress gallery

lots of lead

Lots of troubles during the build ,especially for the weight, till the last piece of lead put on, the gannet continued to sit down on the tail, the i put lead weights on the engines, in front of wings, on the propeller cover.. and on the front well Tongue Tied also i put the main gear wedges with the unfounded hope to back the center mass of the plane Dead

that's all for now about the gannet , i hope you enjoy it Bow Down

Thanx for comments Milairjunkie  LOL , i'm sure the gannet can't win a beauty contest but actually i find more fun to build particular machines like it than modern mach 2 aircraft (even if some of them i have in the stash) Wink

Edit:

Family portrait of latest finished pieces, the gannet is also not so little

Great work ! She's a beast. Mustve been a heck of a powerplant in that thing. Great deets on the bay and the gear too, let alone that engine. Prob have enough copper in that kit to warrant it being under plexiglass with an alarm.

Thanx for comments guys ,i  really appreciate Bow Down

Hercmech i can recommend the gannet from revell instead of the trumpeteer, lower price (at least in italy) and better details than the trumpeteer . I hope revvell will produce even the aew version .

You're right Indifferent i'm not think about that LOL Big Smile my Father was an electrician and the only supplies i have in good number from scratch is copper wires .

Also used lots of lead on , balsa and others metal materials, out of plastic sheets. I'm sure the gannet cannot go through airports metaldetector Hmm

No sun again for outdoor pictures Lightning
