My first plastic kit I can remember was a very small B-47 with about 9 pieces. Solid wings and fuselage. I think someone sat on it and broke it shortly after I built it. That was in 1956 or 1957. Then it was the 1/72 Mongram P-40. Probably had 3 or 4 of them. I remember building Revell's small B 25 several times. I don't know if it was 1/72 or smaller.

Clear Left!

My first kit was an Aurora MiG 15.(it actually looked like a F-86D on steroids) This was 1962 in my room Clark AFB, P.I. My next kit was the 1/48 Lindbergh Blue Angel F-11 with engine. The neat thing (I said neat) about this kit was they included a pamphlet detailing the Blue's show formations and routine. I still have the turbo jet and the pamphlet.

My first build was a set of tiny ships - the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria - must have been around 1965 or 1966. The next shortly after was 4 A4's in Blue Angels livery.
From there I never looked back.

The first ( that I can remember) was a small Zero. At Wurtsmith A.F.B., Oscoda, Mich.. I did it at the kitchen table back in '73. (I think) No paint, just a mess with the glue. I was born in '65 so I was young. Aww well...

My first was when I was three years old. It was a Monogram P-40B. I recently bought this exact kit on EBay, some 35 years later after first building it. I don't recall much about that first build, but I do remember the glue prints my young fingers got all over it.

I was hooked from then on. I didn't start painting kits until I was about 10, and then I lost interest in the hobby during my high school/college years. A few years after college I picked the hobby up again, invested in an air brush and compressor, and have approximately 40 completed kits on display in my house.

My first bulid was a balsa model helicopter when I was nine years old. In fact, because my Grandmother was adept at sewing and cutting out patterns I had her help me cut out the paper to cover it. My first plastic model came many years later. I only wish that I knew then about what I now know about modeling. That's probably all part of the learning process. Back then, poor glue joints and even worse paint jobs were acceptable. I'm glad I didn't get discouraged. Thanks to the forum and FSM along with the corps of modelers that are willing to give of themselves to help other modelers improve the hobby I have been able to take the rustic hack and hope and improve it into something much better. Thanks fellow modelers and thanks for the request fightnjoe for the opportunity to remember.

I was six or seven when my dad came home with a model of PT-109. He invited me to help him out and he got me hooked. My parents signed me up with "the Young Model Builders Club" which sadly, is no more. Every month I'd get two kits, like a 1:72 spitfire and a 1:72 F-16XL and the next month, an A/B-26 and a dragster.

lots of fun!

I stopped modelling when I was about twelve, and have just picked it back up about a year ago at nineteen.

the questions have been asked why and what to you model. my question is when did you start building? specifically, when did you begin building a/c?

my first build was, cant believe it, armor. a tiger 1 snaptogether. took 2 to 3 hours to complete and less than an hour to break. i was 14. didnt build my first a/c until i was 19. cant remember the a/c but remember i hung it over my bed. didnt do any detail work, truely an out of box kit. wish i had some of those early attempts back. some were 8 hours from opening to hanging. on some the glue was still sticky when i hung the model. now i go for quality rather than quanity. much more research, maybe to much, is involved. but when i am done i really enjoy the finished build.

anyway when did you begin in this hobby? what was your first build? when did you build your first a/c?
