you should see the building that the goose is in now... i've never seen the long beach hanger in person, but the evergreen museum is MASSIVE!  theres the spruce goose and about 35-45 other aircraft in  the same building. plus a few outside as well as a few old tanks out back. their space museum (seperate building) has about 20 more aircraft (well, about 4 aircraft and the rest are technically spacecraft) including one display that is a full size missle silo.

Yeah I photoshopped the nose art on that one. When I was in Long Beach I missed the Spruce Goose by a month. It was on its way up north. That hanger in Long Beach is big!

Little photoshop of what would be nice to see today:

And now for those who collect vintage photos I finally got my hands on this classic picture in higher resolution (and clarity unlike the blurry poor quality photos found on the web) courtesy of the National Archives and Records Administration:

Thats one of the models I have been drooling over! Hopefully when I do that version on the next B-17 it will look as nice.

PZ166 - Thank you very much! I don't have any Hobby Lobbies by me so I will have to look for it someplace else. It is one of the best metallic finishes I have ever seen!

One last thing I should mention though is that under no circumstance should you ever ever use enamel paints with the krylon premium silver foil paint.. It will ruin the paint. Just use acrylic on top of it. Other than that give it at least 48 hours to cure and test touch an area to make sure it is fully cured. The paint can be tempermental when its not fully cured but when it is, it looks amazing!

im still amazed that that finish came from a SPRAY CAN!!!

Been tellin' folks about that stuff for years, but it seems that nobody wants to stray from the "model" paints...

The bottom came out ok, the chin section needs some work, and by the bubble dome area I was having trouble with. Send me your contact info so I can send those decals out to you through private message

I will not be using the "Miss Ouachita" decals so if someone want to build up one let me know.

DIBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been wanting to do that one for a while now, got a kit lined up for her and all! I'd be converting a Revell G model to an F via a nose transplant, from the revell F. Get with me back channel and we can talk more. Thanks in advance!

Also, any chance you can take a pic or 2 of the seams on the B-17, I'm really curious how those came out. By the looks of the last pic they came out good and you mentioned something out the way you glued the fuse halves together, I'm curious as to what that is.

Early X-mas present came in today:

(These are scans of the actual items so the resolution is really high)

Come to find out this B-17 did NOT have the bubble dome above the Navigator but rather a flat piece of plexiglass. For those who wanted to know. I will not be using the "Miss Ouachita" decals so if someone want to build up one let me know.

Speaking of B-17s and cats,,,,,,,,,,have you started rebuilding your dio Hans??  lookin forward to seeing it rise from the ashes,,,,,,,,,,,,or floor,,,,,,,,Cool

It was a goner, nothing left but parts of the interior  that I salvaged, and the damaged engine's cowl.. But I will be rebuilding the diorama, I've still got a couple-three more Forts...

That sucks,,,,,,it looked great,,,,,,,being random to this subject but if you decide to start a WWii nose art build group I'll be watchin for it,,,,sounds like a fun way to start 2012......I think I have a couple bombers left in the pile...........

Im still learning too. The 1/72 fort is in the scrap yard now (aka practice bin for weathering). This paint is awesome but is exactly like Hans said in which it is a double edged sword, and I made to little mistakes and it shows but luckly unless you pick it up and look close you wont know its there... I still have one more 1/48 that when my skill improves I will do the tail swapped version of Little Miss Mischief. But I already know Im not quite there yet to tackle that. Next build after I finish this one will be a p-38 lightning with NMF and now I know to wait until it is assembled to paint it. This has been a huge learning experience and after not have built a model in years expecially this B-17 I know what I will do and not do again on the next one, one being the radio room will be more custom parts like resin than the supplied kit. And the use of wood for tables, and other little things. I will post a pic of what it looks like now, and I intentionaly left the bubble window out above the navigator because I like the little detail I did on the flight deck and I have a little LED light that will shine perfect through there so I can show my daughter the inside when it is done. Well thats I will have for this week as x-mas is coming up and have long work hours the rest of the week, if I dont have time to chat I hope you guys have a good X-mas!

Cant believe this one slipped by me.

Great work so far, I agree with hans though, wouldnt have painted the NMF on before assembly. I've learned the hard way that the seams on this kit can really suck. The paint you used looks reak'n phenominal though, may have to pick up a can or two of that.

I see you found the B-17 group build over on the arcf forums, hell of a lot of good info there! There's a guy named Karl over there, he's kind of the go to guy for pics and info, been suprised at some of the stuff he's come up with.

I've got 0% experience on the 72nd scale forts, (I build in 48th alone) so cant help with that build.

I'm looking forward to more pics, this is look'n real good so far.

End result photo:

Radio room done but not alot of detail could be done like on the flight deck.. (Probably will do a green radio room on the next B-17G when I do the post tail swap version)

I was on a roll of assembly that I didnt take pictures of the interior fuselage which I realized after I was taping it up.

Little Update:

Did some touch up on the flight deck, added maps on the navi's table, glued a canvas sheet to the front flight deck pass way (next to navi's table)

Canvas sheet can be seen below:

Dry fit with flight deck and radio room installed:

Chin turret installed (added "canvas" in the turret)

and for those wondering why the chin turret is grey rather than aluminum color, refer to pic below:

(from what I was reading it was grey for a certain amount of time from what is thought to be taken off of a early camo B-17G)

Im sorta in the same boat as you. Got tired of building models with no depth/realism to them and this is my first go at it. Just in the few days on this forum I already learned alot. Just got done getting the parts together for the chin turret. Had a small sheet of micro fiber cloth that comes with screen protector kits and painted the cloth and cut to size inside the turret. Turned out pretty good I think.
