This will be "Snow White"....a Ploesti Raider that ended up getting shot down after a raid.  The kit looks pretty impressive, aside from a total lack of interior detail up front. Spent the last few days adding a mess of wires, do-dads, and gizmos, along with a bunch of other prominent features that should be there!

The instructions show the assembly of the cockpit floor to the front bulkhead wrong. The floor needs to slide all the way forward, creating the nose section desk(which also needs a bit cut off the port side). I cut out the top portion of the bulkhead and scratched the detail and added a mess of wires.

The sidewalls were babybutt smooth, so all you see is scratch and spares. Ammo crates are scratched from resin pour blocks, bombsight is bits of sprue, styrene and wire. Added detail to the guns. Front seat and ammo chutes are PE.

Desk lamp is wire and sprue.

Added sidewall detail and some G.N.D.N. wires and plumbing to the wheel well.

The kits pilot seats aren't bad, but I scratched some new ones anyway(Arizona Tea can aluminum)! Because I love it so!

I have PE belts, but they just never look realistic to me, so I cut the buckles off and used them with Tamiya tape.

IP is pre-colored PE, however, it was pre-painted in a crappy green......my refs. show it should be black, so I repainted it.

Your work is simply phenomenal.  Don't think I could even see anything so small, much less actually build anything that tiny.

WOW, makes me feel guilty about being such a fan of PE. I have done one of their J kits, and even with the full Eduard inside, it don't look as good as this. Luckily, on the J kits, you can see next to nothing on the inside anyway. You might just give me some ideas to supplament the PE when i get round to one of the D's.

I didn't know that about the IP's, i just added the green PE ones as they were. Thats one point to note.

Wow!  I was assuming that was 1/48 until somebody mentioned it being 1/72 - then I went back and noticed that the seats I had been drooling over were sitting on top of a PENNY!  Absolutely fantastic detail work - never mind the scale!!

So how come the B-24 is most noted for disastrous, obviously not coming back photos and the B-17 always has spectacularly damaged but made it back anyways shots? Did Boeing just have better PR guys or what? One article talked about the B-24 having flatter glass panels and more portals for combat photographers to get better shots from, hence more battle loss photos from B-24's of B-24's.

Despite myths to the contrary, B-24's had a lower loss to mission ratio than did the B-17...

Fermis,

Your B-24 looks awesome!  I love all of the detail that you've added to the cockpit.  Those seats are really nice.

Wow, thanks everybody!Toast

Manstein's revenge

What's going on in here?

Didn't wanna bore everybody with a "Hey look....I put two pieces together" posts!

I didn't do anything special in the rest of the fuse (all closed up), of note though....the instruction make no mention of the waist guns or mounts (IIRC, the mounts are #Q8 or 9), they also don't show any guns going into the turrets (NICE...thanks Hasegawa!), there's a few to choose from, and figuring out which go where isn't hard. Also, for anyone planning on building this kit....all the bulkheads and floor pieces have half-moon pigs that fit into holes in the fuse. I assembled them, in place, inside one of the fuse halves. I think you'd be asking for trouble, if you assembled them, then tried to fit them in.

Anyway.....I reworked the turrets. For the top turret, I nixxed the bar that's supposed to go between the guns, along with the clunky part that holds it in place (so it could be movable......"F" that "S"....moving parts are for toys!) I glued the circular portion of the gun into the slots of the turret, re-worked the inner portion of the turret and added ammo belt. Did pretty much the same for the tail turret.

 Wired up the engines

Ready to prep for finish!

The wing/fuse joint is amazing!!!! I will leave the wings off, to make it easier for painting.

Getting ready! Firstly, the nose needed some interior color on the outside...

All appears farely decent there...but clear parts will jack with you! I next sprayed a coat of standard int. green over the entire clear parts area to check for bad areas along the joints......not aweful, but not good either!

With the sad areas cleaned up, I covered the green with a neutral grey, to give a more even "canvas" for finishing.

It was pretty decent. A slight gap at the top of the canopy, to one side, and another slight gap on the lower curve of same side. The main difficulty was the side parts. The pit floor was a touch wide, which spread out the side parts. I had to wrap tape around the front and back to keep the sides in while the glue set for the top portion. Got it pretty close, but it still needed a bit of sanding.

Looking very good, lovely work on those engines. You have got that front section attached better than i did. Mine stick out on both sides, as though the front is slightly wider than the rest.

A bit odd about the instructions not mentioning the guns. The 3 D kits I have, two are lead ships and the third is an armed version. I know the lead ship instructions don't mention gun, for obvious reasons. I will have to check my armed D, but I wonder if the instructions you have are for the lead ship's, with just the markings for the armed version. My kits are boxed away at the moment. But I have the instructions for the J I built at hand. The mounts for the waist guns are indeed Q8. For the top turret, its parts R 24 and 18. For the rear turret is N3. Should be the same for yours.

I removed a lot of those half moon pegs, they were a bit of a pain in the butt.

That's great! Dad and I went up in Witchcraft in 2006 at Moffett Federal airfield. I volunteered to turn the props for the first flight of the day, and in return got to ride in the RO seat.
