I am just decaling my G14 at the moment.
First I sprayed the entire kit white which acted as a primer as well as a headstart on the topside colour ( car paint spray can)
I then went over the panel lines with an airbrush with black paint .
then I should have sealed the whole thing with varnish but didnt.
Then I airbrushed the underside light blue and the top with white until i got the shade of grey that I wanted around the panel lines then - gloss varnish car spray and decals.
when thats all sealed I will go over the panel lines with a wash and hopefully post a photo when it's finished

I painted mine a little differently. First, I painted the underlying camo. Next, misting coats of white were applied, trying not to get an even coat. Future, decals, Future, wash & dullcoat finished the camo.

Hope this helps.

Another masterpiece Pix! I'll have to try one of them too and only hope it turns out half as nice as that one.

Thanks for the compliments, nick, trupr, obiwan, & RBMODELISMO.
nick - the cowl markings are kit decals (1/48 Hasegawa) for Hartmann's bird. They went on really well.
RBMODELISMO - the winter camo, done this way, isn't difficult, its just time-consuming (painting the underlying camo first, then overspraying) Looking forward to seeing yours !

The following link is to an article I wrote explaining my painting process for Eric Hartmann's white G-14.
Let me know if you need any further help.

Anthony

i think pix has the right idea. i have seen other posts of his and i believe he has done his homework. Big Smile [:D] Historically correct i believe. Let's see some finished winter camos, I am sure they will all look good.

On the bench Knoxville, TN:

1/48 Monogram F-4 Phantom "Black Bunny"  I wanted to relive the past....Never again

On the Bench Manchester, TN:

Rumor has it that the white distemper used by both the Luftwaffe and the Russians tended to wear off during the course of the winter. When I did my Sturmovik on skis, I decided to try to get the appearance of really seriously weathered-off white.

I first painted the regular 3-color camo in its entirety. Then I lightly sprayed white in varying degrees, letting the camo show thru here and there. Then I started picking out panel lines with dry brushing of the camo colors. Lastly, I went over all the panel lines with chalk pastels in the camo colors.

It came out a bit harsher than I'd planned, but it was a fun experiment:
