Warped kit?
Posted by MikeV on Monday, February 2, 2004 11:20 PM
While looking at my Monogram A-1H Skyraider kit I noticed that the pitot tube in the tail is not in line with the tail gusset and looking down the model from the nose towards the tail it looks like the tail is warped. If this thing could fly you would be busy on those rudder pedals. Big Smile [:D]
Is there any way to correct this or should I just go ahead and build it as is and buy a Tamiya kit down the road for a more detailed build?

Thanks guys

Mike

Hey Mike, I've read in a few past posts, that you can put a warped part into a tub of warm water to soften the plastic and then carefully form to the correct shape. Though I don't remember if anyone did it to a fully built fuselage. You might be able to find those posts if you search.....or maybe someone will remember and post here.....I have personally never tried this technique, so I can not vouch for it!!!

Thanks Heath.
I have read about that trick also in a Verlinden book I have on building techniques. I don't think it would work too well now though since the fuselage halves are glues together. I guess if you look at it from the side you would never know. Big Smile [:D]

In some a/c there is actually a wrapped tail effect to counteract engine torque and actually it does save you pedal effort. The angle is 3-5 degrees at the most.
So better check with scale plans first!!!! If the skyraider is zero degrees set then you can still force it into the correct angle even if it is glued together, by using warm water...
