How do you recreate "faded" decals?

Any hints on "fading" decals? What's your technique for depicting that old faded look? Do you do it while still on the sheet? After application? I'm practicing new finishing techniques on the kits I'm currently working on, and so far so good. I'd hate to spoil the finish with sparkly markings.
Big thanks,

I usually apply the decals, wait until they are completely dry, then either spray a very light coat of light grey or tan over the markings to give it that faded effect. I also use oils at times to get the same effect. The thing with oils though, they take a long time to dry. After you shoot the decals with the lighter color, go back over it with a good dullcoat the give it the painted on look. Good luck with your project.

Hey O... I was pondering this same question the other day... I was thinking of trying to dry brush the edges of the decal with some of the base color to make it look like the insignia paint is scratched and chipped... I don't know if it would work...

By the way I think my Jackets have your Kings coming up... you'll have to listen to that one...Wink [;)]
