The Ta 152 is done
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, February 6, 2004 5:36 PM
I just finished the DML Ta 152 kit, so I thought I'd get the pics posted so I can clear room to finish the Me 262.

I built this kit with a beautiful Eduare PE set. When I build my next one, I'll leave the flaps shut. They were a real pain, and most photos of parked Ta 152s have the flaps in the "up" position.

It was sprayed freehand with Model Master enamels, and the RV band is paint. I used kit decals. Its a good feeling to be halfway through the "production line !"

Hope you like it, and thanks for letting me share !

Compared to the FW 190 I just finished, the Ta 152 is like a Wulf on anabolic steroids !

Beautiful, beautiful presentation Pix!

I remember the first time I ever saw a "152" was in a piece of Art.... and me thinking
that the Artist really goofed up that "190"! hehehe Thanks for sharing your time
and talents; it is greatly appreciated!

Frank

Excellent job!! I'm getting ready to build one of the 2 on my storage shelf. Never built the DML Ta 152 kit before. Any special areas of concern to be wary of ?

Hey Pix,
YOU DA MANBow [bow]. I have the Tamiya kit to do one of these days. Well after seeing your DML 152 built up, my 152 may work its way to the assembly line soon.
As always, the over all appearance is geat. You can sure work the magic on those German a/c I tell yaWink [;)]
Did this kit have any draw backs? Lookin forward to seeing your Swallows once they are finished.
Flaps up,Mike

Thank you so very much, garydmason, Frank, Rick, Jason, John, benzdoc, John, & Butz !
This really was a fun kit to build, except for the flaps.
Frank - the Ta 152 DOES kinda look like someone took a pic of a 190D with a wide angle lens !

Rick & Butz - the only real difficulty I've had with the basic kit is getting the accessories aligned at the back of the engine. Lots of dry fitting & trimming. The kit PE is stainless steel, which is thicker & stronger than "standard" (like Eduard) PE. Folding the hooks for the bottom portion of the sliding canopy without losing them is a challenge. Cleaning up the nav lights is also pretty tricky. The gun tubes are separate parts, so aligning them with the wing openings & attachment points at the back of the wheel well requires care. If you build it with the cowl panels open (how I'll build my next one), a LOT of care is required to keep everything true & aligned. References are pretty scarce on the net (one unrestored bird in existence - owned by the NASM) Overall, its one of Trimaster/DML/Dragon's best fitting kits.
Butz - I was unaware that Tamiya produced a Ta 152. When did they make that? Is it 1/48? I've still got a couple more DML kits to build. Just curious, as I haden't heard of it before.

I am very happy that all of you enjoyed looking at my Ta 152. Its a priviledge to share mywork with all you fine people !

Now...where did I put the Me 262?

Thanks, kik36 & boybuddho !

kik 36 - they're available at Great Models Webstore for $24, with the engine & PE. I think its a good deal.

boybuddho - I've got a couple more in the works (Me 262A-1a & Ju87G-2) with VERY different schemes. I expect to be done with the 262 by Wednesday, and the Stuka by the weekend of the 14th. Stay tuned.

I thought I'd post a pic showing some of the progression of the 190 airframe

From right to left :
Shanghai Dragon FW 190A-8
DML FW 190D-12
DML Ta 152H-1

You can see how the aircraft really changed over time (about 4 years or less)

Thanks again ! Glad you liked it !

Thanks, Dave, saltydog, AJACKETSFAN, Jeeves, Kingtiger, & dj !

Trimaster did such a great job bringing these planes out. Their kits are still my favorites. I only wish they had produced more. I believe that Dragon is rereleasing the Me 163B & Ju88/FW 190 Mistel. I'm looking forward to building those again.

Its always nice to get such great responses to my efforts. I thank you all so very much, again.

Thanks, boybuddho & obiwan !

boybuddho - my preferred manufacturers of AC are, in order, Trimaster/DML/Dragon; Accurate Miniatures; Hasegawa; Pro Modeler; and Tamiya.

obiwan - the exhausts, and the area around them, are painted in Alcad II steel. I really like these paints. They are the only metallic I will spray now. If I need to brush paint, I use MM Metalizers. They will go on with a brush, but I don't think I can do the same with Alcad. I use MM chrome silver for the polished metal portions of landing gear.

Thanks again !

Hey Pix,
Can you say DUH. I always get the Ta-152 and the FW 190 D9 mixed up for some reason.
I know they are two totally different a/c but they look somewhat simular if you have one eye closed and the other half openTongue [:P].
So I have the FW 190 D-9 by Tamiya. Silly meWink [;)].
Flaps up, Mike

Thanks, BSquires !

Yeah, Butz, I kinda thought that's what you meant. The biggest difference is the wings. The tail is also broader, the intake is larger, and the prop & spinner are different. The fuselage is also longer. It was also pressurized, so there are different access panels on the fuselage. The smaller differences are not as noticible unless you see the two side-by-side. You can improve the Tamiya D9, if you want, by getting larger aftermarket wheels & prop/ spinner combo. A company from the U.K., called MDC (Model Design Construction) produces the open wheel wells & partial engine to accurize the kit's boxed-in wheel wells.

I assume this is the second bird off the production line, Pix? I love it! Great work, my friend. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup] Very well done!

I noticed in your evolution pic that the plane in the middle has a different hue. Thats an older kit, right?

Thanks, J-Hulk & allan !

allan - the FW 190D-12 was built a few years ago. I may have painted it in Gunze acrylics, or I may have been trying that "scale effect" thing. I can't remember for sure. The memories fade as the years go by...
