Started this, this afternoon. Kit is nicely molded, but forget about relying on the part #s noted in the instructions....many of them are wrong. One review said there's no control stick....it's there, just not mentioned, and there is NO gun for the rear pit....BOOOOO! There are holes in the left fuse sidewall, that appear to be for some detail parts, but there's no detail parts for them....BOOOOOO......easy nuff though, I covered em up some some scratched pieces.
The kit seats seem a bit small, so I used the obligatory bits of tea can aluminum to cobble together some new ones.
I then took a break, for some venison meatloaf!!!!!!
Painted up the pit....I used some left over inst. decals to detail the IP, Tamiya tape for the seatbelts.
Wired up the engine with fine copper wire.
Hollowed out exhaust stubs (top)
....and got most everything together, so cement can cure for a day or two.
Truly excellent work, as usual !
er.........
mmmmmmmmm...........................is that bacon on the meatloaf?

I've done 2 A/M TBFs,
First one was way back in 98-ish, and is the kit that sealed the deal for getting me back into the hobby. Finish was done with rattlecans and some experimenting. It's been through a few moves, so it's seen better days.
The second was about 6 or so years ago, before my 2 year "break", so the finish isn't quite up to date with what I can do now!
Both are old....however.......
Thanks for the pics! Bookmarked the tea can seat how too!
I love reading your builds, seeing all that scratch building from something you would not think of into something amazing is awesome! Your builds still amaze me, your B-24 was the first I have seen with the AZ tea seats and was hooked on your builds ever since.

Well then....you missed out on 39 builds last year...and 21 the previous year...and a lowly 9 the year before that!!!
Thanks for the pat on the back!

Good thing they aren't 1/32........
Fermis:
Looking forward to seeing it all built up. I almost picked the kit up at the LHS last weekend but it was a bit more than I wanted to pay for a 1/72 kit so I will build it vicariously through you.

Hey Fermis- thanks for posting the link to your tea can seats toot. Really cool.
I've been looking forward to seeing you build this, as I've been wanting this kit since I heard the release announcement but after this http://aeroscale.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=7506 , I'm not gonna lay out $30 for it. I know you hit the vendor tables for your stash, but I haven't been that lucky with this kit yet.
Wow, I think I paid about thirty bucks for my 1/48th Hasegawa Val!
As usual great work Fermis, that engine wired in 1/72nd- I wish my hands were that steady.

Gamera ......... I wish my hands were that steady.

Me too, I have to pinch the wires with tweezers, held with my toes!
I'm pretty "handy" with my feet!!! (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk......see what I did there???)

AH-HAH!!! So that's your secret!!!
"Handy" feet are back at it!!!
Added clear/colored nav. lights.
There was a nasty gap at the rear of the wing/fuse joint, big enough to CA some styrene in as filler.
Sanded down and rescribed.
Way down, at the tail, there was some pretty bad dimples...top and bottom.
I'm not a putty user, and building up sufficient layers of CA would take too long, so I drilled out the dimples.
I stretched (a little bit), some sprue for plugs.
The top is a perfect fit, but since the sprue has been stretched, there's a small gap around the bottom. I filled the gap with CA, heated up a blade and pressed it to the bottom of the plug. This "mushrooms" the plug, filling the hole.
Sand it all down...no more dimples!!!
As she sits now.
That's a nice looking vowel...
Manstein's revenge That's a nice looking vowel...
Without any help from Vanna White, either !
Nice !
Very cool tip with the dimples
Hercmech Very cool tip with the dimples
