If you guys have good links let me know-I'll add them to my favorites.
I have about 5 books on the topic. The main problem is most of my aiplane building stuff appears to be from the 1980s and early 1990s. Those books have pictures of "showcase" models that appear not to have any weathering or dry-brushing at all! Just base color sprayed on and decals applied. The completed kits look like those pretty little toys from McDonald's.
Every one of those books and even the newest stuff from Kalmbach dedicates 50% of its content to stuff like cutting the parts from the sprues and washing the pieces in soap and water.
You buy an "advanced" book-it's stratchbuilding, scratchbuilding, scratchbuilding! I'm sick and tired of all the articles on scratchbuilding. It's 2004 for god's sake, models have come a long way and most come equipped with all the details you want. If you want more, your order them from a 3rd party manufacturer. Most likely you don't spend 3 weeks making a little styrene ejection seat.
The most important thing: painting and finishing and weathering-they'll dedicate one and a half pages to it! Very frustrating. Again, this crappy content applies even to the newest books from the major publishers. Only Francois Verlinden seems to know what the heck he's doing but so far I've seen only diorama books...nothing dedicated to aircraft specifically.
