Hasegawa 1:32 Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden "Jack"
Posted by Plastic-surgeon on Monday, July 23, 2012 9:26 AM

This is my latest build and I must say it was fun! The kit has very nice details, hollow ends on the gun barrels and exhaustpipes, the pilot is very detailed!! It was a rather easy build with only a few "problems".....the join of the wings were a nightmare thanks to the "teeth" ( see pic) in the wing and cockpit floor, they should fall in oneother and the wing root had little hooks that needs to be hooked in the fuselage side. Decals respond very very fast to the Micro sol and I wrecked the cockpit decal and tail-code......

I made seatbelts of Evergreen strips.

Landinggear, brakelines are made of Evergreen rods, I usually use electric wire but then I have to use plastic strips to keep them in place, the Evergreen can be glued to the struts but they're difficult to get into the proper shape.

The engine will not be seen so I did make any ignition wires on it.....

The pilot, I painted it but didn't use it in the end.

Preshade;

Then I used the decals for the other paint scheme.....the one with the lightningbolts, which I didn't like, but I did not have any choice...... which I sanded off the day after and resprayed the tail and fuselage.

Followed by a clearcoat , chips, stains etc.........( I used tailcode numbers of a 1:48 J1N1 Gekko)

I dilled holes in the navigationlights and filled it with red and green clear paint.

DONE!

Hope you'll like it!

Best regards

Wow! Another beautiful model there PS! Great job on the finish, nice fading and chipping but not overdone.Cool

And a great job on the pilot, I don't generally use them either but shame to let him just sit there.

Really Nice.  The scratch seat belts are sharp.

Well, it's not the Revell Jack, but it'll do... (J/K)

Wink

Really a fine job, and a double thank-ya for doing the pilot figure.. It's been a pet-peeve of mine that the vast majority of reviewers don't show the figures that are included with a kit  on the rare occasions that they ARE, indeed, included... (I don't care if they're painted or not, I just wanna SEE 'em assembled at least)

If I may, what's the sticker-price for the Hase-Jack?  Pretty sure it's cheaper than the OOP (and next to impossible to find) Revell kit..  Revell's kit always starts low on Ebay, but soon shoots up to (and past) the 100-dollar mark...

I've practically given up on the 1/32 Jack, but maybe the Hasegawa kit is a better deal..

Anyway, again.. Super job on your rendition of the "Japanese Jug".....

@ Hans von Hammer,

I paid €65,- for the Hasegawa kit, about $78,-.

I have the Revell kit too. Paid €80,- ( about $97,-) incl. shipping ( to Europe) for it about two years ago.  While building it I  noticed the wing was slightly "warped", tried to fix it with warm water.....which ruined the whole wing! At the time, before Hasegawa's Raiden release, it was the only thing close enough to a Raiden. But can't say it was a fun build to do. It lacks detail on the wheelbays and struts and other little things that bothered me.....

(the build on a dutch forum)

plakkers-inc.nl/viewtopic.php

Now it's used for parts for a scratchbuild 1:32 scale A7M2 Reppu.

Now the Revell kit is hardly sought after on e-bay, I've seen a couple on ebay with a low starting price ending in a maximum bid around the $40,-

If you want to build a Raiden, I'ld go for the Hasegawa kit.......

to all of you;

Thank you for your compliments!

Oh, I've got a Jack kit.. A 1/48 Otaki Jack to be exact..  I'm one that prefers the old kits (and with old kit prices).. I got the Otaki Jack, it came in a "lot" of  Otaki 1/48 Japanese birds, a Jack, Frank, Oscar, and Zeke.. Got the whole lot for about 25.00..  Nothing wrong with those old birds, lol..

Dunno why Revell hasn't re-released the other kits.. You could be right about the molds for 'em go.. I can't remember where I saw that only the Jack-molds were lost, just recall reading that.. I could be wrong..

Also got the 1/32 Revell Tony for about the same price too.. (I have a 35.00 limit on single-seat, single engine aircraft kits.). Think it was 30 and some change..   Have to check the box, but it's on the bottom of the 1/32 scale stack of kits, lol... Don't feel like diggin' right now...... I keep the receipts in them...
