A-7 P Corsair II
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 12:40 AM
Hi,

Just discovered these forums and they look awesome. Lots of great work out there!!

I recently got the Albatros Marauding Corsairs decal set (1/48) just because I thought the Portugese one looked so cool (with the falcon and tiger on the tail). Any suggestions of a good kit to go with these decals? I am guessing that the Hasegawa ones are probably fine, but wanted to see what opinions are. What is the main difference between the A-7 P model and the A-7 E version? (I still need some more reference materials in addition to a kit before I start this one).

I usually build WW2 planes and armor. Next in line is a Tony Ki-61 with my first metal foil finish. I plan to post pictures if it turns out OK... Blush [:I]

mummykitty,

The Hasagawa A-7 is the only decent A-7 available. The others are horrible, period. As for the difference between the E and the P I do not know specifically. But, the foreign export aircraft are usually different in instrumentation, armmament set-up, air to air refueling set-up, and sometimes the power plant (engine). The ejection system could also be different.

I think some A-7s were built under license in Europe. I know Greece and Turkey had them. You will have to do the research to find any differences in physical appearances.
The A-7 is lovingly referred to a SLUF (Short Little Ugly Fu#@%er)

A-7P's are refurbished A-7A's which were equipped with updated avionics (to A-7E standard) and new engines. (Pratt & Whitney TF30-P-408)

Here's some links that'll help you out with reference on this particular aircraft and with general info on the A-7P:

A-7 Corsair according to Joe Baugher - This is a page from one of the more reputable online aircraft encyclopedias. You'll find links to all versions of the SLUF on this page, including the A-7P. No photos here, just info.

A-7P photos on Airliners.net - There's a couple shots of the Esq 302/304 64,000 hour-bird here. Airliners.net is a great source of reference for modern jets, don't let the name of the site fool you, either. There's lots more than airliners...

A-7P Photos - This page should help you out a whole lot. There's several shots of the specific bird you wanna build here, they're a little more than half-way down the page. The text is in Portuguese, but the pictures are in English! Tongue [:P]

There's lots more out there on the A-7P. Try doing a web search on the A-7P, or Portuguese Air Force. A quickie image search on Google yielded a ton of hits.

Good luck...
