Express masks

Go with the Black Magic masks. The glue on the express masks is very agressive and will rip Future right off the plastic while Black Magic is much friendlier.

So, after I dip my clear canopy in Future (aka miracle fluid of palstic modelling) I would place the mask over the canopy. It covers all the portion that are to remain clear..

How long should the Future sit, 48 hours?

Sounds like you understand the program. I assume you are using an airbrush - first coat should be light and allowed a few minutes to set before continuing so paint does not creep under the masks anywhere. Some modeler will shoot a coat of Future over the masks before painting to seal the edges; I don't usually find that necessary.

I have recently used Eduard Express masks on my Fury (part of the kit) and they are indeed a helpful. But as they don´t seem to stick very well to the model (glue is too friendly, to use swanny words) I glued them on Tamiya tape and cut out my own Tamiya masks. Worked like a charm. I masked everything, including the canopy that way and applied all coats of paint in very short time (2hours?) No probs. Only thing is that they are very expensive (in Germany).

I’ve had good luck with Black Magic masks too. I’ve built two 1/48 scale B-24’s and one B-25. The masks are a life saver. I’ve found the masks can be a bit too tacky. The instructions recommend pressing the mask to the palm of your hand before applying to the model to reduce the tackiness. I’ve also found some of the more complex, compound curve masks tend to stretch and not stay down. I have used these as a master and cut the mask out of Tamiya tape.

Use a toothpick to remove any paint seepage. Use “Goo Gone” to remove any glue residue the masks might leave.

Be sure to let the Future dry for at least 48 hours.
