Hasegawa Harrier At Last!!
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, February 11, 2004 4:43 PM
In case anyone else is as excited as I am, Hasegawa's new 1/48 AV-8B Harrier II is finally available!! TwoBobs has announced that while their Hard Corps Harrier decal set will not be re-released, they are working on a new set for OIF Harriers (some with shark's teeth). Can't wait to get my hands on one; I'm sure it'll blow Monogram's classic away!

Hey all,
I just got my jump jet as well..!!!! BOY you wanna see some sexy linesTongue [:P]. The over all kit looks great.
There are a few things that I saw that made me kinda wonder.. Black Eye [B)] I know I know its a brand new kit but...The interior is nice but for some reason the cockpit tube lacks in the side panel detail.
Its there but it looks like the die process was not fully develpoed for that part. Does that make sense?
The other thing is that there is a seam in both the front windscreen and the canopy. That is one thing that REALLY gets meEvil [}:)] That is one area that I feel Hasegawa should work on and thats getting rid of the seams in the clear parts ahahahahahaTongue [:P]
But ya know what folks, I'm still gonna build herBig Smile [:D].
The way the a/c is assembled is quite nice. Can you say sub assemblies for the fuselage and wing sections!! I am not going to go into it because I do not want to ruin it for ya. You have to see it for yourselfWink [;)].
One thing that I tought was cool is that the vectoring nozzles can be positionable(polycaps are provided).
The various weapons are as followed. AIM 9Ls, AN/AAQ-28 Litening II pod and of course 300 gal drop tanks.
Hasegawa gives you two decal options. The first one is from VMA-231 "Ace Of Spads" and the other choice is VMA-223 "Bulldogs".
The retail price is $30.
In all out of a possible 10 I give they're new release of the Harrier a 8.5. Looking forward to seeing what TwoBob brings out interms of decals.
So, run out to your nearest LHS and pick one up today!!Tongue [:P] One other note, Hasegawa looks to be bringing out a AV-8B II
Flaps up, Mike

If you would listen to everybody about the inaccuracies, most of the kits on your shelf would not have been built Too Close For Guns, Switching To Finger

Looks like another one to add to the collection. My local hobby shop here in Tucson is one of two Hobby Towns and boy are they slow in getting anything new on the shelves. I usually go to Squadron or Brookhurst for my kit orders, cheaper too.

Butz,

Do you think the Monogram canopies will fit? They're seamless.

Weeeell, I don't think anybody's saying Monogram didn't, Melgyver!

They're just stating a very obvious fact: This new kit far surpasses the old Monogram kit (which I've built two of, and loved both of 'em!).

I for one hold a very special place in my modeling heart for Monogram, and will never forget the great times I had building their kits.

But this new Hasegawa Harrier does indeed "blow away" the old Monogram classic! (In my opinion, anyway. Your results may vary!)

J-Hulk,

Well Said!! I whole-heartedly agree. I still build Monogram kits occasionally, and I think that they're good kits. Decent detail & fit, and errors (gaps, seams, etc.) are easy to fix. They are excellent kits for beginners who want to start building glue kits. But, Tamiya & Hasegawa beats Monogram in overall quality. But I still buy Monogram if I see something I like (usually because it has some sentimental appeal).
