Gary,

I built a "wedge" shaped display cabinet that as 3 ft. wide, 1ft. deep at the top and 2 ft. deep at the bottom to accomodate the B-29. I've never finished it and now the wife took the display cabinet over!

Melgyver,

Yep, I know it's a little larger than the B-29 kit. I just didn't realize that the B-29 kit was as big as the above picture shows. I bought my B-36 during the last half-price sale at Hobby Lobby, and was amazed when I opened the box and found a two-piece fuselage (I expected a four-piece fuselage, like the Italeri 1/48th C-130) that had to be put in the box at an angle because it was too big to fit straight across!! And, as you all know, that's a big box that it's in. Now THAT'S a big kit!! I had been considering buying the B-29 as well until I saw the picture with the coathanger. I'll wait until I build the B-36 now.

Ive got a 110 aircraft hanging from my ceilings (so far) good thing I have nine foot ceilings or I would be out of space a long time ago. and I hang them from three levels with 10 lb fishing line I used 20lb for the 1/72 B36and 1/48 B29 just to be on the safe side I put the big bombers and cargo in the middle layer and the fighters on top and botton level.My buddy jokes about my ceiling caving in

Gary,

I hate to tell you but I think the 1/72 B-36 is actually a tad larger than the 1/48 B-29

Here's an old pic of mine for scale. Each wing is about the size of your average coat hanger as you can see.

Current and Subsequent Projects:
1/48 scale Tamiya P-47 "Razorback" - Complete
1/48 scale Testors/Lone Star Models PT-22 Recruit - 20% Complete
1/48 scale Monogram C-47 Skytrain - Not Started

That's correct! The fuselage is about the diameter of a 12 oz soda can!

Well, the B29 had a winspan of 141'3" and a length of 99'

So,
141'3" = 1695'"
99' = 1188"

@ 1/48 scale it would be:

1695/48 = 35.31" wingspan
1188/48 = 24.75" long

Basically, about 3' wingspan and 2' long. A decent size piece of plastic whichever way you look at it.
