1/48 B-24D to J Conversion?
Posted by Quagmyre on Saturday, February 14, 2004 8:09 AM
Any one know of such a 1/48 conversion kit from a B-24D to J? I know Monogram made a 1/48 B-24J kit in 1990, but in order to acquire one of those kits you gotta spend buku $$$ on eBay. With Revel Germany's re-release of the B-24D, does anyone know of an aftermarket manufacturer with plans for making a J conversion kit? And I know about the Ford Nose, not interested. Looking for a J conversion.

Cutting Edge makes a conversion meant for the B-24J kit that will enable you to build a Ford-built B-24J. I'm not sure what differences there would be in using it on a Dog Lib, but it should be workable. The retail is close to $30, though. I think I saw a review of this thing sometime back, may have been on Swanny's site. I dunno fersher...

Koster Aero Enterprises makes a B-24D to B-24J/PB4Y conversion kit. It's a very
nice and not ridiculously expensive kit. It's an all vacuform kit that was very easy to use.
As luck would have it, I used the kit on my B-24D just a few months before Monogram
re-released the J model.

The D and the J are both being reissued - have patience.

Thank you Wise Master Swanny!Wink [;)] I saw a D is out (Revell Germany). I'll just hold my breath for the J then, rather than impetuously dump near a C-note on eBay as the J's have been going for as of late.

Sincerely,

I'll have to pick up another D model, then. The Koster kit was my first real experience
with vacu-form. Luckily, I'd read a lot about doing vac stuff so it wasn't difficult at all.
Just a little more time consuming. Just for fun, I built up all the different turrets, the searchlight and the PB4Y nosepiece with Erco turret and added them to the spares box.
