F-18 1/48 or 1/72 Hasegawa

Wanting to purchase either kit but have not found a site with a great pic and the hobby shop I have around here is a hour away and the last time I was there they didn't have it. How is either kit to build? What is the size on both kits?

I am working on an F/A-18C right now from Hasegawa. Try Great Models, Great Scale Models I can never remember their name. Having a good time building it. Even with my problems with small parts something is going right so far for the mostpart. Check wiht other companies for after market stuff PE Decals ects. Think about a USMC Hornet and join in the Group build. Due date is July 30. Good Luck.

I don't have a 1/72 Hornet but the 1/48 is roughly 13 3/4 inches long and 10 inch wingspread. The Hasegawa kit looks great! Haven't built it yet.

Clear Left!

The 1/48 is outstanding. It has separate leading and trailing edge flaps, separate rudders, metal landing gear struts, and a PE boarding ladder, HUD, and canopy locks. The fit is almost perfect provided you spend a little extra time aligning and test fitting parts befoore gluing them into place. The only drawbacks I can think of is that the Landing gear struts are metal with plastic parts which need to be glued onto them. It can be tricky. Also, the stainless steel photo etched HUD is impossible to bend. The metal is so stiff that the bends required are too mutch. The overall detail in that model is great and I do highly recommend it. The 1/72 shares a similar parts breakdown, but a lot of the details aren't represented. The cockpit has only decals for the instrument panel and side consoles, and the seat is split vertically down the center. Still, it is the best in its scale.
