Hey -

I really shouldn't be here because I'm not a modeler.

However, I draw a lot of inspiration and qualification from the modeler community and, right now, am planning a film with the use of 1/18 "toy" airplanes and found this thread...

Anyway, what a brilliant piece of work!  Your level of dedication and skill is amazing - thank you so much for posting.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!

It wouldn't surprise me if there are a misspelled word or two in the decals... They were a mix of scanned  "Walk around series" profiles and either Tamiya or Hasegawa decals that were enlarged and scaled to fit this model... I wasn't worried about that aspect as I wasn't trying to achieve 100% scale. To be honest I was just glad they let me enter it into the contest!   :)

Wow, that is one very very very very nice Dora!!!!

I have to make one remark though;  the stencils contain a few language mistakes.

Best regards.

Hi All,

There was a note to see more pics of this 'Bird after it was posted in the Gallery. I thought I would share the build of the plane here as well. I had originally built it while over at the ProModeller site and kept a detailed online record of it's progress. Here I'll give you the basics in writing and then let the pics speak for them selves.

I took this 1/18 scale model toy and wanted to convert it into a contest worthy model. I tore the model down to the basic pieces and rebuilt everything back up using lot's of scratchbuilding to add as much detail as I could stand. The cockpit and landing gear bays received the most work.

I used mostly Tamiya Acrylics and ProModeller Washes. The decals were custom made by Red Pegasus Decals, they cost $80.00 but were well worth it! I invested roughly 300hrs. in doing this conversion and had a great time!

There are lots of pics....  Hope you enjoy!

All the hard work paid off! I had a ball building it and can't wait to try another one!

Holy Cow! I forgot just how many pics were taken during the build....  Hope you enjoyed the build!
