Keith-a, glad to help.

I use Lifecolour, Gunze is good as well.

Hey KJ, thanks for the hints. I tried the Humbrol spray can, but it wasn't much better, but last night I picked up some Life Colour acrylic clear matt and it worked a treat! Beautiful finish - cheers for the advice.

There are several things you could try:

1. As you suggested a different brand, maybe an acrylic varnish.
2.See if Humbrol, or another manufacture, do matt varnish in a rattle can.
3. If you have an airbrush, which I'm assuming you haven't, try spraying it. One of the cheapie external mix air brushes would probably be fine area work like this.

Varnishing planes, specifically, so it's not really off topic. I'm using Humbrol Matte Cote with a brush, but can't get a nice finish. When the light shines on it, it has a splodgy look. I tried thinning it a bit, but it didn't really help. It seems even worse on top of a gloss or satin coat.

Am I doing something daft, or should I try a different brand?

Cheers for now
