My Goose is cooked???
Posted by Swanny on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 10:05 AM
Or at least starting to cook.

Have yet another project on the fire, construction article is updated on my site.
Also have made progress on the 108 ...

Will be exploring making custom decals with this build.
Also a bit of a face lift on the site itself - it's been a busy week so far.

Swanny, looks like the Goose needs a few more hours in the oven, but coming along nicely. Keep us posted on this one as I just purchased the kit and plan on starting it when I finish the ones already on my bench.

That is the widgeon, right?
If it is, I built the sinifer resin kit of it. The wing cord was a bit off with no way to correct it. The trailing edge didn't sit flush with the fuselage.
BTW, it looks great so far. Do you test fit the parts prior to painting or paint them in place?

(yeah, I couldn't figure out how to get the wire tight)

Actually, It's a Grumman Goose. The build process is posted on my site.
Ya got a nice looking Widgeon there - very similar looking aircraft.

Hey Mayhew, that's great. I'm glad it worked out for you, now where are the pictures?

They're both looking really good Swanny. Can't wait to see them all finished. That NMF looks really great. Thank you for sharing as always.

Looks like a nice interior for the Goose, Swanny. Good thing too, as I imagine a lot of it will show with the large transparencies.

I can see all the work that must have gone into the Swallow, filling the wing gaps for a NMF. The ARBA kit didn't come with decals? (neither did my ex-ARBA kit). How are the instructions? Mine are badly-done photocopies of pics of the plane (J1N1 "Irving") in progress.

Looking forward to the next round of pics !

Yeah Pix, that is exactly what we have here - poorly done photocopies, no decals, poor fitting parts. I decided to build this as a respit from more complex kits - man was I ever off the mark! The scary thing is that this is not the only ARBA kit in the stash.

I just picked up a commission model job too. Doing a Tamiya P-51D as "Estrelita III" for Lt. Col. Curtis Smart. Since it's a paying model job it will probably push the leisure stuff aside.

Sweet! how are you going to source the decals for that one? And, if i may ask, how much do you get for a commitioned model like that? Ballpark figure... what about for a museum? might as well earn money from doing something you like, right? Smile [:)]

Why, shrikey, planning on selling stuff to a museum too? LOL, my friend, if you're thinking of modeling (plastic or otherwise) as a livelihood, please don't quit your day job!

LOL and in case the rest of you are wondering, shrikes and I are friends and this is all said in jest...

If I actually charged for my time it would be beyond reasonable - figure about 40 hours (NMF) at $20.00 per hour plus the kit plus the cost of custom decals. I will charge the cost of the kit ($26.00) plus the cost of the decals ($40.00) plus a C note for my time.

Swanny:
Glad to see the project is off to a good start. Don't forget to turn on a spit every hour and baste frequently (with Future of course!)

Looking good Swanny.

You might want to look at using more glue next time, as it looks like half your Goose has fallen off! LOL.

I'll have to check out your salt weathering article for my 262.

That would be impressive if you could actually build it in 5 hours. Big Smile [:D] Maybe go with a snaptite and a lot of putty!
