de Havilland Venom
Posted by coldwar68 on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 2:00 PM
I won an auction on ebay for a Glencoe Models de Havilland Venom. Does anybody have any suggestions or tips about this model? Also, does anyone have any suggestions on a color scheme? I have always thought these were cool looking planes. Thanks.

Jerry

Yeah, get in your time machine and go back and retract your bid.

As far as I can recall most Venoms were silver, some were camoflaged.
If it were mine I would think about converting it to a Sea Venom which had grey uppersurfaces (sea grey, I think) with sky undersides. Squadrons had there own individual markings usualy chequared.
The one I flew in had red and white. I terminated that flight via Martin Baker!

Swanny, perhaps we could do a group build of a time machine...not only to undo purchases of "bad" models but to see what the real thing actually looks like in real life situations (oh yeah, and maybe catch a ride too!) Big Smile [:D]! By the way, I like your website.

Dai and Bruce, I appreciate the ideas and if you have some some good reference ideas or pics that you would like to share I would be grateful. Also, if there is anything that you need sometime just give me a yell and I will see what I can do.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hello Greg, those are some pretty interesting pictures. Just from those pictures it looks like there are plenty of schemes to choose from. The only other scheme that I have seen is the Venom that I saw at the Dayton and Lancaster air shows this past summer. It was all black with Swiss markings. I liked it but I thought that I would like to do something a little more colorful.

Thanks,
Jerry
