I have a model of a KI 84 1/72 scale, one of the camo schemes offered is a blue which I like because its unusual. Problem is the description reads as ( a dark blue with a purplish hue ) Just a bit vague. Does anybody know a thing or two about this color? oatswilly Big Smile [:D]

Looking at a reference last night, it mentioned a violet color, with no FSN, that was used for markings. There was also a blue listed as a navy color for topsides that had the same FSN as WW2 U S Navy intermediate blue. Don't know if this helps.

This was a color from local stocks.. Most of the Homeland Defence &Cadre Sq. in early 45 carried wild unoffical colors. A fine example could be found on KI 61 and Ki 100 Units.. I can also remember reading an article about this Blue/purple color.. The author of the artical thought it was actully a shade of Black.. Similar to some of the P-47Ms of Zempke's Wolfpack.. Color photos from that time period did funny things to Black and Blue colors as well as yellow and reds.. Aero Master does a decal sheet for the "84" and I'm pretty sure they explain the color mix etc on that sheet as well as providing excellent decals for it and the " Black" aircraft,,
Good Luck

model master makes a color called black/blue pearl. it is a real dark purple. the only problem would be the pearl in it. i wouldn't think they had pearl paint that long ago. Swanny may know a way to get the pearl out of paint, you should ask. if this is the color you are looking for.

Took a second look and found this. The color is called A22, which would be army. The formula is for old Pactra colors. I've tried to match them to Model Master as best as my poor eyesight can. You can always plead fading or a bad batch from the factory.

1 part flat black
2 parts interior green FS 34151
4 parts true blue FS 15102
The blue is the one I had the most trouble with. The Pactra color is M3 Navy Blue.
