Hello friends,
I just returned from a 2.5 week business trip to Germany, and I had the good fortune to make my two weekends pay off in terms of visiting museums and most importantly to take reference photos that hopefully will be helpful to you (and me) in building models.
So far, the only photos ready for posting are the ones from the BMW Museum in Munich. I was thrilled to see that they have a nicely restored 801 engine. The accompanying text didn’t say which variant this particular engine is, however as rare as these engines are, I’m happy for anything! Based on the fact that it has a 12 bladed engine fan, I’d say it’s an early model, but I’m not sure how else to know for sure. Besides, the fan might not match the engine, so if anyone can identify this that would be great!
Unfortunately, I didn’t have my tripod with me, so not all of each photo is perfectly in focus as I’d like. Thus, there are several photos that seem to be duplicates, however in each case a different area is focused. Either way, there’s some good info here that I hope can be of use to you.
Here are a couple shots of the front, including fan:
A couple of the rear:
One of the information labels (so cool!):
And another:
Here’s the Kommandogerät:
Here’s a side on shot showing the combustion air intake and the welding on the exhaust tubes:
And another from the lower side showing the ‘troublesome’ lower exhaust tubes:
Here’s a more direct side shot:
And a little closer up:
There are many more in the set on Flickr; here’s the link:

Feel free to save any that are useful to you!
Best regards,
Mike
P.S. I'll have more photos to add to this post from the Luftfhart Museum Hannover-Laatzen in the next days.
