Wow, tremendous color, usually it's all in black and white. Thanks, Stik.

Yes that 129 does look very sharp Eric

Glenn, I agree about the wow factor of seeing these tings in true original color after all the B&W we see of this stuff...

Eagle, anytime ;-) I love finding this stuff and putting it up here.

Wow! those are great pics! I always love seeing colour pics of that era. Especially if it is Kodachrome, that has such a nice and warm colour saturation.

If Life has these kind of great pics in their archive, why are these used so little in aviation books? To expensive because of the copyright?

I have seen some of the Navy ones used in books, particuary the TBD pre war ones. But so many of these Life photos only seem to be found there. I know I snatch up those WWII color photo books whenever I can find them for a good price, but so many of those are either official photos or personal collection stuff. These are the ones taken by some of the best professional photographers of the era. The Kodachrome color saturation can indeed be so beautiful to look at- like in the the photo close up of the tail of the wreck against the deep blue sky.  The deep greens of (presumably) RLM 70/71 are captured perfectly in that photo.

I wonder if those are slide images? I had a customer bring some slides to be put on a picture cd, and the colors were really great; they were early '60's photos.
