Luftwaffe Filme...

There are many 'virtual squadrons' out there (known in the FPS world as clans) for the various PC flight sims, with many having pretty cool websites. A few of them stand out in that they contain a good deal of historical information and images. Here's a link to one of those standout sites:

Jagdgeschwader 4

This virtual unit is for IL-2 Sturmovik and IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles. Anyhoo, if you follow this link you'll see a 'ready room'. Click on the door off to the right to enter the 'Kasino', then click on 'Filme' which is on the left.

Here you'll find 28 historical films including gun camera footage and wochenschauen. (newsreels) Most of the films deal with the Luftwaffe, but some (pretty much all the newsreels which are at the bottom) deal with the Heer. (Army)

There's a couple of way-cool and groovy color films, one of which I believe you can also find at The 109 Lair, but I dunno fersher; I haven't had much luck in playing most of the videos from the Lair.

Also in the 'Kasino' there are links to a page with photos, albeit frustratingly small ones, and a page with German military marches that you can download, if that sort of stuff tickles 'yer fancy.

There's also a History (Historisches) page which gives a brief history of JG 4, including a sub-page with a summary of basic tactical markings of a typical Jagdgeschwader as well as Reich Defense Bands for various units. All pretty basic stuff that can also be found elswhere.

Another sub-page of the History page is one called 'Funksprüche' which is a list of the words used in radio communications. Ever wonder what a 'Dicke Auto' is? You can find out here.

There are also, of course, other pages dealing with the flight sim itself, screenshots and such. On the intro page, where you clicked on the door to the right, there are several links within the image which will lead you to other pages, mostly dealing with the sim itself, but there's some interesting info here.

There's just one catch: this site is entirely in German. So if you don't have any knowledge of the language, an online translator is pretty handy.

Enjoy!

Hey Krax,

What version of the media player do you have? (I assume it's the Windows Media player?) You can always go to the evil Microsoft site and download the latest version.

Hope you get it goin'...
