Waki's Dora...

Talk about trips down memory lane...

This model was featured in a fairly early ish of FSM. It's a Hasegawa 1/32 Fw 190D-9 (the old kit) built by Mark Waki. This model was built before we modelers had any huge amounts of brass or resin available to us, and what was available was mostly garbage.

Keep in mind that pretty much all the detail you see is scratchbuilt, including the working features. As an example, the cowling latches work; they actually lock.

I consider myself a model assembler. THIS is model building...

Enjoy!

Hey Steve-O,
Thanks for the pics. Mark and his brother Matt were members of our club here in Salt Lake. They haven't been out for quite a while as they are concentrating on their artwork and other interests. They both paint aviation art and use models for reference. Mark to Best in Show at an IPMS Nationals with his Dora and Matt had won this trophy earlier for a 1/72nd F-15 done up where everything on the model opened just like it did on the real plane. The engines were removable and the turbines would spin if you blew in them. We have a saying in our club. If you trick out a kit so that it has working options that weren't included, you have Wakized it.
