This sounds like it would be a fun build.  I don't have anything as of yet, but I'm planning on going to a couple of different shows in the next couple of months and I'm sure I can find something that will fit.

Hi Mike-I've missed (skipped) the last one or two RD GB's, but this one has me interested-once the start/end dates are set I'll decide.

Great to see so much interest! It's Saturday morning here in Aus, I put the thread up last night and the teaser is already on page 3! I'll get the new expressions of interest onto the list right away.

DiscoStu -- if the Fw 189 served in an air to air combat role by night, it's in! I remember seeing this type in night camo, so if you can locate the correct variant and markings, you've got a starter!

Blackdog62 -- same applies, if it served as a nightfighter, it's in, but otherwise it's outside the scope of the GB.

It sounds like this will be an active, fun build! I was considering maybe also a Bf 110 G-4 myself, and I have Tamiya's Uhu in my stash too...

LOL, damn crossposting again!

dflu: Joe only needs a few good pics/color profiles of the subject you need masks for. I ordered some P-47 masks (insignia, fuselage codes, serial numbers and some strips for invasion stripes) and they look beautiful. I wasn't able to use them yet because the Jug they are supposed to go on isn't ready for paint yet.

The Montex link seems to be a dead end BTW?

I don't use masks for generic markings. Vinyl has a tendency to shrink quite a bit over time, so you can't store those masks forever. I rather order some custom mask sets with all the stuff I need (including fuselage codes and serial numbers).

Joe from Scale Precision MAsks makes some really good stuff, but the masks come from the States, so you have to wait quite a bit untill they get all the way to Europe.

Mal at Miracle Masks makes very impressive mask sets. He is actually willing to try to cut me some masks for a complete nose art!

Another company would be Maketar, but I never ordered anything from them.

Joe and the guys at Maketar have generic Masks sets for sale, but they can cut you some custom ones too if you write them an e-mail. Mal only cuts custom sets AFAIK.

I've used two brands now:

Scale Precision Mask (Joe offers a few retail but he will also do custom masks, I've not had any made yet, so I'm not sure what material you have to provide etc. but when I'm ready to order some customs I'll contact him about it)

http://www.scaleprecision.com/

The other ones I've used are Montex. They are exact same vinyl material work the same:

http://montex-mask.com/ (They offer a lot more "off the shelf" you can view them here....if you're in the US you can order them from Victory Models....just got 4 sets from them...one had to be back-ordered but excellent service.

5 Lancs? That's pretty impressive for one single sortie!

I have never come across any masks for markings, where do you guys get those from. I wouldn't mind trying those, especially in the larger scale.

Bish: Thanks a lot! I think I'll still go with the A-0 paint scheme. The differently painted wings and crosses kinda grew on me and it sure is something different from both the normal scheme and the black/grey one. I won't use the decals though. Vinyl masks look like a more than acceptable replacement for such basic markings...

I hadn't noticed that the A-0 version had a black wing. That sure makes it unique. I don't think you can go wrong with that scheme. Now I'm really liking it haha...but if we are both going to be building the same kit for this I'm not going to steal your scheme.

Vinyl mask are pretty much a must for me these days...do you know of anyone making 219 sets of the shelf? May have to order some customs from Joe at Scale Precision.

o don't worry blackdog, if it wasn't for my spell checker, even I wouldn't understand my own posts.

failing that for this GB, that would make a nice WiP thread. Don't often see a 410 or a Meng kit.

Ye, that is rather a nice scheme. I have the 4 Dragon 72nd He 219's, one I am doing in an all black, one with the black undersides and I think one has that mixed underside, but I am not sure. But I will probably do the A-0 G9+FB which carried out the first operational sortie by a 219 and destroyed 5 Lancaster's.

Well, guess what: I jsut had a look at the instructions for my 219 and ZM supplies you with decals for the same color scheme! I'll probably end up ordering some maks for the crosses though...

I don't think I ever even seen a 410   before x-mas the ment version piped up for sale and I thought it was such a slick looking aircraft  my wife told me order it as part of x-mas.

I did some research on them it seems most was in the north attacking the channel and they was involved in the second mission attacking England I can remember the name it was when they started sending single night bomber over there. Didn't see much in the way of night air defence.

Shatenspartan.  That 219 looks really cool  I have always liked them.

I have bf-109t -2 that has that same paint scream. I'm always thinking about spraying that pattern.

Clemans, I can't find any difference between the A-0 and A-2 other than the 0 was a pre production type and the 2 was the first production series. It just depends on the Rustsatze kits carried.

I was thinking about that black 219 as well, but it kinda like the one on top of the same decal sheet more:

That particular bird has one of the wings painted black and a small black area around the engine nacelle on the other one. Looks really nice if you ask me...

I am not that familiar with the 410, so I just checked the general reference I've got and there doesn't seem to have been a NF version, they were mainly used against day bombers.

Ya it has the radar on the nose but is for surface detection.  I can always start scouting for a different on. That's the only radar kit I have for now.

blackdog, I do believe the B-6 was intended as an anti shipping aircraft.

Ooh, another 219!!! Welcome aboard!

I think you can make that 3. I will probably do one of my 72nd ones, I want to practice that scheme on something smaller and cheaper before I risk the big Revell kit.

Sold. If it's going to be later in the year you can pencil me in for a 219. ZM or Revell yet to be determined...depends if I decide I want to make the ZM pop my first build from them.

I'm in starting with a Dragon Ju88G-6. I think I'm going to need to stock up on paint for this one
