More Stearman WIP pics

Nice work Don, Do you remember the old Aurora 1/48th WWI biplane kits. Cabane strut alignment was tricky. I just picked up one of these kits at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon that expires today. I did not know that Hobby Lobby had a store near me, nor did I know that they sold stuff other than women's artsy- fartsy craft stuff. Model kits? Who knew? I got the idea from one of the other threads on this kit and want to thank those guys for pointing that out. Do you know the FS numbers for the blue and yellow paint scheme, or are they given in the kit instructions?

I just used plain old (square bottle) Testors blue and yellow.  The yellow seems pretty standard on pre-war Army aircraft, but I believe pics (the few color ones available) seem to show several shades of blue in use.  But then, if anything is less reliable than photographic prints for color accuracy, it is photos printed with a printing press :-(  Anyway, colors look good to my eye, so I didn't worry about it.

Nice work Don. That looks sweet. The only thing I may do to mine is either make some belts or get Eduard ones otherwise the kit is just superb.

ranger.......My brother built the Aurora planes as a youngster and I remember helping him with a yellow one, possibly a Stearman but my recollection is a bit foggy on that being over 50 years ago.

Yes, I did scratch shoulder straps.  I used the kit lap belts, but made scratch shoulder straps from masking tape.  The kit ones made sharp 90 degree bends around seat back- not realistic.

My biggest gripe with the kit is that post-war switch panel, lights, and N-numbers.   he fact they added those does not upset me, I just think that they should specifically say that they are post-war and make them an option in the instructions.    And the harnesses are pretty poor, BUT easly scratched, or replaced with PE.  So I cant complain!  ADORE the kit!

Looking good Don. Did you scratch up the motor mounts?

No!  That is what is in the kit.  So far the only mod is the shoulder straps.  I did check and that front access panel will stay in place if I put it in place, so will make the kit with that panel not glued in.  There is considerable detail on the engine accessory plate, and more detail like the carburetor heat stove.  Fantastic kit for the price.
