F6F-5 Hellcat aftermarket parts
Posted by Hoggarth on Saturday, May 31, 2014 5:54 PM

I picked up this old Monogram kit on sale at a local shop. The cockpit and engine are really basic so I was thinking about picking up aftermarket parts.

The one's I have found say "for Hasegawa kit" of "for Eduard kit". Will those fit my kit? Will I need to modify the fuselage to make them fit?

Any advice on good places to get aftermarket parts?

Thanks!

Most AM sets are made for specific kits but can be used on other kits. But you may have to do some modifications. Just because kits are the same scale does not mean dimensions will be the same.

Are the AM parts PE or resin. Resin sets tend to completely replace the cockpit, but PE sets often just add to whats there. I just checked Hannants, I am assuming your kit is 48th scale. If your thinking of the Aires resin cockpits, you should be fine. You usually have to thin the plastic even when its the kit the resin set is intended for, so test fitting is vital.

I would check Sprue Brothers if your buying in the US.

The two I looked at were both Aires resin kits. Yes, it's 1:48

Thanks for the Sprue Brothers tip. I'll check them out.

You should be fine with those. As I say, do plenty of test fitting. The bits in the Hase or Eduard kits that the resin pit would sit on may not be there on the mono kit, or could be in a different place, so just compare the resin set instructions with what you have in front of you, you should be able to see the differences and maybe add or remove bits to support the resin.
