Spitfire 1 of 5 finished !!
Posted by Jeff Herne on Saturday, February 28, 2004 10:25 PM
Well, number one is done, number two is another day or two away...

I've also updated my webpage and turned it into a website...lots of new stuff, including some carry-overs from my museum site and Combat Flight Sim site.

Enjoy!

Jeff, she's a beauty!!! I took a look at the progress pics on your site, and those seatbelts are SWEET!!!! Well worth the 200 mile trip. BTW, how were you able to paint the handle/rail on the door so perfectly??? Did you mask off the surrouning area first?

Thanks for the kind words guys...

Kik, the red item on the inside of the door is a crowbar, I simply shaved off the molded on part and added a piece of brass wire painted red.

Swanny, she won't be factory fresh for too long...I intend to dirty her up a bit...

Nah, they're not perfect, you just aren't seeing the photos with the mistakes in them!!

Although I painted mine, I've come to the logical conclusion that it would be easier to spray the white then add black decal strips over the top.

They look real nice, but it added about 10 hours of work to the model, and I couldn't bring myself to use the 'all-in-one' decals included with the kit. Those had the roundels, call letters, and serial number all printed over the stripes...the model would have had 75% decals and 25% paint.

Ahhh that's how you did it.....thanks for letting me in on that...obviously, you can tell I've never built a Spit, not knowing it was a crowbar and all. And the stripes look so BOLD.....maybe I should go pick up a spit...hmmmm....

Jeff, a great looking Spit. Very nice job on the invasion stripes. I've tried the black decal over white paint method, but you always seem to have some pesky "lump" on the wing or airframe that makes setting the decals a challenge. I still prefer the mask & paint method.

Jeff:
Nice choice to go paint vs. decals on the stripes, and very well done too.
Can't wait to see the others.
