bf 109g-6 brass in engine
Posted by davesplane on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 8:45 PM
I just bought the bf109g-6 brassin engine and I have never worked with a plastic model like this before and I was just wondering if I am supposed to cut off the block of plastic on the bottom of the engine.
Eduard does not say in the instructions.

If I'm not mistaken, that kit is resin so you would have to remove the pour stub.

On the first page of the instructions, I think they highlight the parts of the pour stub that need to be removed

I checked and there is nothing in the instructions about where to cut the parts at.

I have never done a resin kit before and i just dont have the experience with this type of model to know where to cut it at.

I guess i will just have to wing it!

Hi, Dave- I just took a look at the instructions at Ed's site- and yes, there is no cutting guide.  It looks like the bottom of the engine won't be visible, so you can't mess up too much!  ;)  Eduard's photos show a fairly large pour stub that their assembled sample id sitting- that has to go.  The base is a big box- cut it off with a razor saw.  On top of that box is a smaller one that joins to the engine block.  Whittle/grind/saw that off until the block fits into the trimmed-down nose of the model- be careful here.  Don't cut yourself (been there) or damage the engine details (came close to doing that!).  Any questions?   It looks like a really nice set- I'm envious!

thanks chuk!

I have been out of the hobby for some time and thought this would be a good challenge!

I never did a resin model before and I thought this is going to be cool but I need to learn a little more about this resin stuff!

One quick tip on resin that'll bite you if you're not careful:  Make sure to soak the resin parts in some soap to get rid of the release agent residue.  Pain't won't stick to it otherwise.  I think I've read about people using brake fluid too.
