Revel 1/48 F-4C conversion
Posted by Ghostrider17 on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 12:03 AM
I am currently working on a thank you project for one of my teachers. I found out that he served in the air force working on F-4Es. I am looking to buy Monograms reissue and convert it. Anyone have any experience with this? Or have any other model recommendations?
Also, he worked on avionics, is there any aftermarket details I could buy to show that? Or should I scratch build it?

To convert a C to an E would take quite a bit of work. Essentially, the entire nose section is longer and the radome is narrower, not to mention the addition of the gun. The E is pretty easy to find. Hasegawa makes one, Revell/Monogram released the Hasegawa kit under the Pro Modeler line, and I believe Testor's had one, but it wasn't up to the quality of the Hasegawa kit. I'd check Ebay to see if there are any available.

I'm doing the same thing as a matter of fact Ghostrider.  A friend of mine flew in the 80's out of Moody AFB. To reshape all that would take quite a bit of effort to do it right.  Best off getting an "E" model and starting from there.  I have the Hasegawa E and it is nice but does have that nasty gap to deal with on the bottom where the lower wing section meets the fuselage. It's manageable though.

As far as AM parts...I know there's plenty out there by Eduard and Verlinden has a superdetail set you may want to look at:

Go on Ebay and get the Pro Modeler F-4E which is a re box of the expensive Hasegawa. I just got one for $35 and free shipping. Beautiful model with an extra decal sheet included.

Find a Testor's "E" model and jam the Monogram cockpit in it.

Thanks!

I had no clue about the Pro Modeler kit! It seems like it should be a great kit!

It is a great kit, ex Hase mold with recessed panel lines superb over all, specially the lower price.
