Thanks for the replies everyone.  I have a lot to consider now.  Does anyone know of any decal sets for Gobel's flying dutchman.

Razor, if you are interested in a Hasegawa 1/32 P-51, go ahead and private message me. I have one I do not really want

Now lets say the original poster has financial limitations and saving up won't happen anytime soon... Not everybody has lots of disposable income to toss at the top of the line kit. What else is out there? Well there is the old Hasegawa D. Tried and true and can be found at various pricings online... Will look like a Mustang when built. There is the Dragon D which comes in a couple version, the early one without tail fillet, and the more common later version with tail fillet. It has been critiqued for overdone surface detail, difficult fit, and other issues. But will look like a Mustang when built. They can often be found on clearance due to the bad reviews, and the release of the "must have" Tamiya kit. Then there are the old Revell and Monogram kits- Revell's based off their old Bob Hoover kit, and the classic Monogram Phantom Mustang. Both are old, simplified, and currently OOP. But can be found online at various pricings based upon the boxing. Look up those kits, see if any fits your needs, and decide for yourself.

I'm really partial between the ZM and Tamiya kits, but the ZM one is a really nice birdie. Interior color callouts are wrong in most kits' instructions to be fair...

I got me both kits (ZM and Tamiya) and I have to say it really comes down to personal preference on which one you like best.

The Tamiya kit has excellent surface details and the fit is spot on. The cockpit and engine look great too but the toy-like features make the construction a bit more difficult than necessary.

The Zoukei-Mura kit has great surface detail as well, but I'm sure the fit isn't as nice with the hull and wings being built up from a bunch of panels. All the extra interior stuff (100% acccurate or not) makes that kit very interesting if you want to display it with some panels missing.

Just my 2 cents...

Cheers, Clemens

Most of the structural details of the ZM are ficticious, as are most of the interior color call outs.

Save up for the ZM P51. Great Kit, superb detailing.

Of course you can get this one which is the same kit, but with more options for variants.....

The Tamiya is the best out there.  All of the others have varying degrees of shape and detail issues.  I would save up for the Tamiya kit.  Some of the others can be built into decent models that wil look like a P-51D, but it depends on how picky you are with shape issues and details.

Honestly, just save up for the Tamiya.  Tamiyas 1/32 51 is the epitome of a fantastic kit.    I have a hasegawa makes a 1/32 51.  I own one, but have not built it.  I think it leaves a bit to be desired.

Does anyone know of a halfway decent 1/32 P-51D that it's cheaper then the other offerings. Tiamya's seems great but a little outside my price range
