I can't remember the brand on this. It is new tooling, not Trumpeter.

What Patrick said and I'll add - awesome! I remember years ago when on a company flight we landed at the Marine Terminal at LaGuardia and there on the ramp was a T-38! Got to walk around it (you could in those days) and was impressed. Looked much like the one you built. I was so really impressed with how thin the airfoil was - looked fast just sitting there. Nice build!!!!

Sweet build MSvol!!  They have one of these on display at both the Cape Canaveral NASA Center and the Huntsville Space and Rocket center in Alabama.  I have some pics of the engine area if you're interested...

How was the build?  Good...bad?

That's a nice looking talon! great job.

I have both the Wolfpack and the Trumpeter in my stash.

I hope I can do as nice a job as you did.

Looks to be the Wolkpack kit;  the exhaust can fairing plate on the Trumpeter kit is rather thick unlike this example.  I don't believe the Sword kit had such petite canopy actuators, either... nice job!

(Actually, I just checked and the Sword kit has PE canopy actuator frames.  Those things are darn complex assemblies...)

Regards,

Robert

Thank you all, Yes it is the Wolfpack kit. I still have a Sword kit in stash. I want to build either Wolfpack or Trumpeter T-Bird. I was at air show at Hill AFB in Utah. One bird went down, he didn't eject to save lives on the ground. Very disturbing to see smoke.......... Of course, air show was cancelled after this.

Crash happened in 1981, or 1982 I think.

I was comparing my Wolfpack kit to the Trumpeter kit and it seems the Trumpy (true to form) has some outline errors that results in an apparently too shallow canopy.  Of course, this might be improved by polishing out the overly tall bottom frames and perhaps a little surgery to incompass more of the sill (ie lowering the sill.)  Still would be 'off' but would look better... sort of reminds me of what happened with the Revell F/A-18E kit... so, WP wins.  Much more refined (in some ways) to the Sword kit, which was essentially based on the Hawk F-5A kit.

Robert

I will stick to Wolfpack kit then. There are some fit issues, nothing major. Thank you, Robert

Just to be fair, the Trumpeter kit does have some nice features, with some of the bits being more cleanly molded (like the speed brakes.)  And it may fit together just fine, but it has, as we'd say in the software field, 'bugs'.  For example, the seats are too short for the scale - probably so they don't interfere with the canopy parts.  The cockpit tub shows nice crisp detailing, but accuracy may suffer a bit.  The engine exhausts are also clunky, surprising given how crisp some of the other parts are... so for me, the shape problems and other issues have the Wolfie come out ahead in spite of an apparently trickier construction.  I think the Trumpeter kit retails for less, but with Sprue Models latest 'decal plus kit' special, I did okay - so shopping around might help.
