Leftie, this Thud is gorgeous!  I'm building one for the upcoming Viet Nam GB and if mine comes out at least half this good then I won't be disappointed. I did take notice to some very simple tricks that just don't normally come up with the way I weather these WW2 birds.  I will be making use of them.  Thanks for sharing.  =]

Early morn Leftie,

I totally love everything about this build especially the weathering of the paint to the panel lines.. Could you maybe go over how you acheived this effect?

You sure did this Ol Thud justice and thank you for sharing!

Flaps up,

Mike

Mike,

The system of weathering I use is to apply Nouvel Pastels. The advantage over Tamiya powders is they come in a variety of colors. Great if you want to have yellow rust or more serious dark brown. I scrape it into a soda cap and apply it dry in some cases with a micro brush. Take off the excess with a 'Q' tip, sometimes dry, sometimes moist.

The other use is to add a bit of water and applying as a water color. The best part of both of these  techniques is any mistake can be easily cleaned up with water. For most of my projects the pastels are applied to flat paint so the pastel has some traction. Experiment with them and I think you'll be happy.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the praise. I'm glad you like it. Just on note, this is a much modified R/M 1/48 F-105G. I used a spreader vertically in the nose and added a bunch of putty to get rid of the pointy nose. I added an Eduard cannon vent to the left side and made my own vent to the right side. Rescribed the plane. Greatly reduced the under wing reinforcement plated and totally removed the upper plates.

I've waited for twenty years for a better(more accurate) 1/48 F-105G and at 62, I've given up on anything better that the R/M F105G.

Thanks for bypassing Photobucket and posting images from another source. Your Thud build is really nice. The 105 was a real workhorse in the skies over the North. Well done.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

Thanks John and Frank. My now Ex-wife destroyed this and so much more. But in the end, it was well worth it. Freedom. I smile every day.
