Big Blue Hog - 1/72 F4U-4B Corsair

Thanks for the advice, Joe! The Corsair is definitely one of my favorites as well, and I think the next one I buy will be one of the earlier variants...maybe even one of the FAA ones. Right before I went out last night for all the new year's eve festivities, I ended up finishing my Corsair- what a way to close out 2014 right? I weathered by means of a sludge wash, made exhaust stains using a combination of model master "armor sand" and "flat black", and took a fine brush with some Testors aluminum and simulated paint chipping on the leading surfaces of the aircraft. All in all it turned out pretty good! Here are a couple of shots of the hog- I'm hoping to eventually obtain some supplies and make a display base for it. Thanks to everyone who checked out my plane! I'll be working on another Korean War machine next: an M24 Chaffee !

Excellent looking Corsair rocker. You've done some really nice work there. The Corsair is my favorite aircraft. I've definitely got a stack of them in my stash.If you feel inclined to build another one go for a Tamiya F4U. By far the best fitting and detailed in 1/72 & 1/48. Keep up the fine work.

I've been making progress in leaps and bounds recently. With the holidays I've had short weeks at work - perfect time to work on the hog! I've glued the ordinance to the wings, and I've even taken care of the decals. I just have to seal the decals, then it's on to weathering this bird!

Thanks Devil Dawg! Here are some more progress shots. I've painted all of the ordinance and the prop, and tonight put the first coat of model master 'dark sea blue' on the plane.

Devil Dawg, it's actually the Italeri kit, I didn't realize Academy made a Corsair kit! I may have to track one down for my stash. I was able to get a bit more work done today, the cockpit is all set!

Yep, they make a 1/48th F4U-4B kit. I've got it in my stash somewhere. Yours is looking mighty fine!

Made some excellent progress today! My hog is standing up all on it's own!

I found the fuselage to be a bit tough to put together, but with some well-placed clamps and the right amount of cement I was able to get it looking good!
